so i get an exhaust ticket last saturday in the stepside which made it the 3rd one this month lol. anybody got any ideals on how to get out of it? i live in oklahoma and the law says anything modified is illegal. anybody else have probs with the cops in their area? the cop told me everytime i drive my truck into town it will cost me.

anything other than what came on it original or anything put on it to increase sound. that means 80% of trucks in my town are illegal. the PD in my town sucks. im goin to court over it but i didnt know if its just mcalester cops doin that or any cops. they pulled a kid over with a diesel in town that just had a big 6 inch tip welded up and they said that was even modified.

well they r tellin me anything besides stock is illegal. they have harleys with straight pipes and semis comin through town with jake brakes lol. i think it is harassment. i got 500 bucks worth of tickets in a month
ya im gonna try everything i can. its not like im runnin open headers or anything. i got exhaust plumbed all the way to the roll pan.

In Texas it's tough to get a noise ticket to stick. There is no Db limit and everyone is legal as long as a vehicle conforms to traffic and inspection law (because the only ticket they can make stick is an equipment ticket). This means in most cases you have to have a muffler. Not much else in the law (you have to have the exhaust system exit behind the passenger compartment but on a truck that means dumps are legal past the cab). "Anything modified" is :ghey: and won't stand up in court....the problem is how long and hard you might have to fight to get the case(s) in the proper hands?

yea Js is loud as hell, i was wondering why your truck was at daves dink, anyways you can take like the flowmaster box and a reciept of purchase to court with you, it says 50 state legal right on the damn box, the judge should throw it out. I got the e cutout now, thinking about running a stock exhaust then just opening the cutout when i wanna be loud :thumb:
It is perfectly legal to modify you truck. Just as long as all the parts you put on your truck are DOT approved. If they are not then you can have a problem. But if as you say all you have is a muffler then when you go into court show and tell the judge that what you have modified on your truck is DOT approved. The judge should throw it out. Otherwise if they don't then you will have to hire a lawyer and then start the process of appeals.
it has twisters on it but i read up on the oklahoma law and it says anything modified is illegal. i mite try to do that and show them its DOT approved and has exhaust on it
most laws have a db limit. what is your exhaust setup??
That is too funny! Every car and truck in OK has loud exhaust. Hell I even figured the cop cars and trucks had them! LOL

My brother drives a LTD that he cut the muffler off so it would be loud in NE OK. They don't even do safety inspections any more.

§47-12-402.
Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in
good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or
unusual noise and annoying smoke, and no person shall use a muffler
cut-out, bypass or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway.
No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in any
manner which will amplify or increase the noise or sound emitted
louder than that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the
vehicle.
everyone has loud or no mufflers around here.

So if you are just passing through, and you don't live there, they can still give you a ticket? Sounds pretty bogus to me.
If talking to the chief doesn't work, I'd take it to the next level and take some vids of the chief's truck for evidence!

Let's be clear, the last time I checked TX has no Db limit and an equipment violation can only be cited when a specific law is broken...not by a city ordinance, etc.
