well I just purchased my ls1 combo for the swap

I just got a 98 Z-28 LS1/4L60E with 77,000 miles from a 98 camaro. Its complete with all accesories from the computer, starter, manifolds, alt, ps pump w/lines, all pullies,NO a/c compressor.
Included with the motor/tranny was all these extras:
NEW Street@performance wiring harness ($700.00)
NEW street@perf. return fuel rail w/stainless hard lines and new Boshe injectors ($600.00)
NEW Street@perf. egr polished plate ($50.00)
NEW Street@perf. motor mount conversion plate with small block motor mounts ($100.00)
NEW Corvette motor covers ($50.00)
NEW in tank fuel pump ($300.00)
2 NEW stainless steel 8' hard lines and assorted fittings and a NEW S@P polished inline filter.($100.00)
USED 98 Z28 radiator w/dual fans and transmission lines.

Sounds like you got a good deal on a lot of quality parts. Keep us informed on the progress. I did the same conversion and love the performance. What are you putting the engine into?

Im going to be dropping it into my custom 89 chevy scsb. Its bagged, bodydropped, completely shaved with caddy tails and an escalade front clip and I just finished suicideing the doors. Its going to be pretty nice someday whenever I get it done......I plan on running some sort of ram air into the ls1 with a good exhaust.

I have a few quesitons...are the stock manifolds( I believe these are the aluminum ones...not the later cast style right?) good enough or should I plan to upgrade to some headers?

What kind of hp and torque numbers can i expect...are there any other mods that are recomended to do?

Lastly do I need to have the computer sent out and reprogrammed/tuned? If so what exactly does this do?

What fuel pump did you buy for $300? I used a 93 corvette in tank fuel pump I bought at AutoZone for about $70 and it works perfect and was just a simple swap out part for part. The fuel pressure and volume is excellant with that pump and worked great with my LT1 Corvette engine prior to my new LS1 I current have installed.

The LS1 engine is supposed to be about 350 hp stock, under-rated for insurance purposes. I don't know about torque numbers but can't wait to get on a dyno and see what the numbers are at the rear tire. I am sure I will be disappointed due to drive line loss, though. Most people say you lose 15-20 percent through the drive line.

If the computer hasn't been updated, send it to Allen and have him tune it up for you. You won't be disappointed. You will want him to disable the VATS and rear O2 sensors at least, they aren't in the S&P harness are they?

I am running the factory exhaust manifold from a 5.3L 2001 truck in mine and they fit great and are cast iron tubular manifolds. One day I would like to try a set of late model truck headers to see if they would fit on my 92 C1500.

A Z06 intake is always good for additional performance if you don't want to pay $750 for a F.A.S.T. intake. A good set of ported heads would be around $1800 but worth the bucks. A ported MAF may be good but be prepared in case it makes your engine worse instead of better, some are not calibrated correctly. Mount your cold air intake some place it will get cold air, hot engine compartment air is not as good as air from in front of the radiator or from down behind the front bumper. Popular Hotrodding did a write-up on a few Crane LS1 cams and gave the numbers a couple months back, might check into this. Of course, run only Mobil One oil for a few extra horses. True duals all the way out with an x-pipe is a must for performance, 2.5" pipes would be a good size for this engine, much bigger would be nice but not necessary they say. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator would be good for the days on the dyno. Some engines will gain power by lowering or raising fuel rail pressure by a few pounds.

I didnt buy the fuel pump its coming with the engine....thats what the guy said he paid for it. It looks like a complete drop in unit in the pics.

I believe the s&p harness has vats and rear o2 bypasses or at least you can get them for it. I guess Ill just have it reprogrammed anyways....I can get a few more horses this way right?

I hope I can make these stock manifolds work because I have very little room since my cab is dropped 2.5". Otherwise I may end up making my own headers.

so 2.5" is a good size pipe? I wont be running cats so what is the most popular dual mufflers to run with the ls1? Can I get away with an h pipe or is the x-pipe essential? (clearance issues make the h pipe easier to fit.)

I plan on running dual ram-air ducts down in my bumper ...but I still need to figure out how to run my air filters with the setup.

On the exhaust I'll say 3 inches is about the max you want on the exhaust. I use to have my LS1 in a TA but its going in my truck now. It had long tube headers, no cats and the loudmouth it was awesome gearheads (including myself) loved it. Then you had a few that said "its too loud or it rasps too much". I thought in was great, well thats my input.

Are you running your own custom fuel lines or are you reusing the truck's?

just got my AN-6 Fuel lines yesterday and boy are they beefy!!

Thats cool. I started my swap today LS1/T56 into a 91 chevy cheyenne. For the fuel lines I went to this hose shop and they want $65 for the fittings and 2 6' long steel braided lines. All I have to do is take my old ones in so they can look at the exact lenght and fittings. Well have fun.

i paid $120 for 7ft of lines and the 2 fitting adapters for the rail and the fuel filter

Damn, don't I feel cheap. I went to the Autozone and bought rubber hose made for fuel injected engines, hose clamps and a ready made hose connector for a total of about $40 to build my lines. It may not be fancy but it works perfect and has been on the truck since 1998 and has never had a problem. Just don't use conventional hose clamps, they make some with smooth insides to protect the hose.

Oh man thats awesome, I thought I got mine for cheap. S&P wanted like $150 for 2 feet and the fittings plus another $100 or so for the rest of the lines. I was like :bs: , I having some problems so check out my post just so you avoid those lil problems.

By the way what are you guys doing with your old motors. I got this V6 TBI with the 700R that I need to get it rid of (sell). Whats a good price to let it go for. Its got about 200K miles and it ran really good before I pull it out. Any ideas?

I'd shoot for $500 for the combination.

i have high pressure 3/8" fuel hose on it now. it wont last long. SLMDLT1 on fsc had his blow too and we both went AN lines after that. and apparently i was pushing 82 psi

Damn, 82 lbs? That's unreal. I am surprised it didn't drown the motor with fuel. 24 lbs over stock is totally not cool. I have seen guys on the dyno back the pressure down 3-4 lbs from stock and gain hp.

thats what killed my Walbro 255lph pump. i have a feeling if i wouldnt have tested it i would have been doing another fuel pump swap soon.
