whats some stuff i can do to bring this beast to life and not go brokedoing it?
Nothing. You WILL go broke once you find out how much power it can make! Here's a list of mods:
CAI
ported TB
LT headers
Crank and alternator pulleys
Heads
e-fans
tune
A 224/224 cam made good power on the engine dyno a while back, good drivability too.
Like he said above, exhaust and intake stuff.
wow thats a good deal. whats the mileage etc?
it has lil over 80,000 on it. complete stock motor. buddy of mine wanted to get rid of it and i jumped all over it.
Gotta do a cam, pushrods and springs for sure. Do them while its out of the truck.
i gotta ask what year is it?
either 02 or 03 cant remember for sure.
alright, just wondering cause ive seen quite a few 00 motors sell for 500
Super Chevy did a write up on a budget LQ4 build. They used L92 heads for $800, gm hot cam $400, new gaskets, manifold, carb
Engine made 471hp, and 506 with a race cam. Id prefer to keep efi though
it made 471 with just that stuff on it? whoah!
I picked mine up from a totaled 05 h2 for $500, just the longblock and covers though. mine has ported 243 heads, tr224 cam.
how much can you spend before you go broke?
keep in mind the nubers on that test were at the flywheel with no accesories through a single plane carb intake.
in any of our trucks it would be around 400 at the wheels.
would like to keep it round $1,000. gonna be a lil bit before it gets dropped in, still got 30,000 miles left on warranty and gonna wait till after to drop it in.
I would just do bolt ons, tune, and z06 cam and springs.
-zo6 cam springs $150
-tune $250
-ported tb $100
-pacesetters $400?
-pullies and belts $200
$1000
somewhere around 75 horses?
is it an lq4 or lq9?
lq4
how much woulda good cam be and what would be a good size cam?
228R
Or the ASA hot cam:
218/228 duration
.525 lift
112 LSA
depends on what you are going for, you couldn't go much bigger then a 220 with only having the lq4 stock compression. a good cam would run around 350-400, not worth it if you're building an engine under 1k. you can pick up the zo6 cams and gmpp hotcam for pretty cheap with springs so I would stick with them.
