i looked at two 5.3L motors today im going to get one but the millege is unknown.the two motors are in two wrecked trucks i have the vin numbers but im not a carfax member so i cant research the records on the millege. can anyone help. the vin #are 1GNEK13Z23R294590 and 1GCEK19T4XE160379

I have no carfax either but GM knows the first VIN is totaled.
It's a 5.3 Z (flex fuel) engine out of a 2003 4WD Tahoe originally sold at the legendary Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet in Lubbock.
The second VIN has not been reported totaled to GM but is a '99 model, run of the mill 5.3 T engine from what appears to be an extended cab 4WD pick up. Since it had 55K miles in 2002 when the last warranty repair was done I'd expect it to have an ass load of miles now. It's service history (the truck, not the engine) is longer than the newer one but it's the 1st year of a new body so that's pretty common. It had all four recalls done and was sold at Connell Chevrolet in Killeen, TX on 5-8-99. Most likely it was owned by a military dude.

It's been well over a year since it was hit. I'd trust the high miler more than the salvage one but who knows?
-
I've had carfaxes before and your GM database seems much more useful.
-
the guy is selling the motors with wire harness, accessories and pcm for $600 is it a good deal.
-
Not all the time. I can tell Mike what alternator he has (or confirm what he knew) and stuff like that but if it hadn't had much done under or concerning warranty, I can't. I'm sure cars that are totally well after the warranty expires might not show so much data.
-
$600 sounds like a pretty good deal for all that if the engines are in good running condition. Maybe some others will chime in with their opinion.
-
i mistyped motor for motors, he's selling each motor with wire harness, accessories and pcm for $600
-
that seems pretty fair to me

That is a good deal. The flex fuel motor... Has anyone had any luck with those? My mom has one in her 03 suburban z71, and that thing is sensitive. I know you can only use the stock a/c delco plugs on them. Great motor though. I would try and find a non flex fuel motor if it was me. Did the 99 have cast iron heads? I think in 00 they changed to alum.
-
the 99 motor has alum heads. my 99 z71 also has alum heads.
-
I think only the 99 LQ4 6.0 had iron heads. Once you hook the FF engine up to a modified tune ECM and all the regular bolt-ons without the Hz sensors and crap in the fuel lines you'll have the same performance as a "regular" 5.3.
