Does anyone have a dyno of before and after an intake swap? I looked and cant find anything on here.
I Think The Ls6 Intake Gained Like 8 Hp But Lost Torque.
Try pt.net jeff. I think there was something on there
Yeah, thats what I'm getting at because the truck intake flows better than the ls1 according to gm. But the LS6 isn't that different flow wise than a truck.
But nobody has concrete before and after dyno's here or there on any intake. I have seen plenty of dyno sheets with numbers but none of just an intake.
Some try and test at the track, only to run an 1/8th mile... which will show mostly nothing.
Aren't the 01-02 F cars equipped with the LS6 intake? Maybe I got my years messed up but I thought the newer F cars were different than the 98-99 or 2000 F cars.
ls2, and ls6 ect had the different intakes. I think your about right on the years.
I think the fbody/ybody LS1 engines had one style from 97 to mid year 2001 and then they switched all the LS1/LS6 engines to the flat floor LS6 intake. LS2 intake is totally different, many report losing HP running the LS2 intake on a 5.7L and smaller engine since it was designed for use on a 6L engine.
Ls6 would notbe worth the time and money involved to upgrade. The LS2 maybe. I doubt it but maybe. If you are talking about adding any of these to your 4.8 .. . .well who knows.
I'm looking for something that will make power up past 6krpms... and that will still make power in a 6.0 with the same setup. I figured SOMEONE has to have tested them before and after????
I think Greg and others are saying what I did in a better manner...and I did not mention the LS2 as it's obviously different than any F-car intake. But remember, we were talking about the LS6 (for a while)....my point was that ALL 5.7 car engines had the LS6 intake at some point (2001-2002?).
97 to 00 had the ls1 intake
01 and 02 had the LS6 intake
Ls6 outflows the Ls2
Ls2 is similar to the ls1 intake even tho it has a 90mm opening and on paper it looks to be better then the Ls6 it actually isnt
IMHO there are only 2 intakes out there worth any money or time installing....these are the Ls6 and the Fast90 [ported 90 is tits]
I run the Ls2 cause im boosted and wanted the bling factor of reusing my 90mm tb and allowng myself to use 4" tubing. If i was building a turbo Fbody i would just use the LS6 intake
Now for what you want Jeff, if you cant afford the Fast 90 then Port your 78mm tb then run the Ls6 intake
to run the car intake you just need to take the idler pulley from on the Alt bracket and side it over about 3" to the other bolt that is there now. this will allow you to run the car intake with still using the truck accesories.
What about the vic Jr. ?
i dont like them for most applications. ppl run them for cool factor and arent using them properly. most lose power using this style intake since the cam they have isnt meant for that style of air flow. something solid roller and big rpms i would consider this style intake along with a 4500 fast TB besides that the fast 90 is best intake IMHO for majority of ppl
There is a article on the fast 92 in the feb 09 super chevy on a 5.3 out of a 02 tahoe and they gained 34 horsepower on dyno. Overall with a cam, heads, headers, fast 92 and tuning the 5.3 put down 475 horses and 441 torque.
Yes, yes. Good call Gregory.
Well, then that would be the LS6.
Repetition of statement. George is absolutely correct.
The LS2 intake would work better with a truck (preferably of 6.0L in displacement) due to the intake runner design to make more torque versus the LS6. But if you want absolute power in the upper RPM range, go with LS6/FAST 90.

Also, if you plan on spending the time of money into doing this type of intake work, might as well go ahead and get some head work done. Is all of this going on the 4.8L?
Im looking at this intake for the future.
Edelbrock.com - Manifolds - Chevrolet - Performer Air-Gap - LS1
I will eventually go FAST 92/92
yeah, the fast is the way to go it seems. I'm going to be lookin at one when i get my income tax money back :)
IMHO the Vic. Jr. is the best intake, the reason they have a bad rep. is they are MADE to be ported. They have extra material around the chambers to allow you to port it to the head, same with the intake opening on the top, extra material for porting. Not to mention that just about everyone over on LS1tech run VERY restrictive intake elbows on them. With our trucks we can run a nice arched one that will flow GREAT. There have been people see 90 horse gains from just switching the intake elbow (of course this is in a boosted application).
Everything that I have read on them is once they are ported they are beasts. I am in the process of porting mine now Jeff if you want to come check it out.
Im not exactly an expert by any means what so ever...but from what Ive seen...keep in mind thats not very much...some of the trucks on here making the most power and torque to the wheels are running either a Vic Jr. or a Super Vic. Im not one to proclaim the greatness of this intake...especially from self experience...but I usually look at whats making the most power on a similar setup...and from what I have seen its been the Edelbrock kicking ass. Yeah some people are making huge power on the FAST and some on a stock truck intake...not trying to take anything away from anyone.
I dunno but this is just like the "what kind of intake should i get: K&N, Voltant, AirRaid, or AEM?" question...its all about what YOU like...
This is just my :twocents: and no one has to listen to a damn thing I say.
I dont know about anyone else, but i'm finding it hard to believe a 90HP gain with no other changes just by changing the intake elbow.... especially on a boosted application.
got any pics of these 'horrible' elbows by chance? I'm not saying your a liar but that would have to be one hella big restriction.
I'm with Quick on this one, the vic jr's are meant to rev out. IMO best intake out there is the Fast. I dont plan on turning 7000+ rpms and thats where the Vic Jr intake is going to shine over the others
waht ppl dont realize is the gains ppl are seeing with that intake is from using solid rollercams that spin some RPMs, high compression. not mention the cams they are using are spec'd for this intake. 90% of cams on market are spec'd for the typical intake.
unless your motor is setup for the vic or etc you will see worse results but got head run it and when you report back
SO, What is the best intake for the 4.8?? I am curious. Is it the LS6? Can I use one offa CTS-v
What do you want to do with the 4.8L? You want all out, high rpm HP? If so, the LS6 from a 5.7L CTS-V would be fine...
if anyone in the HOUSTON area wants a LS6 intake i will sale most of the parts AND install everything for you. bring your own water pump and bring your own injectors. i will supply EVERYTHING ELSE AND INSTALL IT FOR YOU.
i'll need a few little parts from your truck intake setup that you will not need anymore, but youll be taking my modified parts from my current setup.
anyone interested?
how much?
Thanks for answering my question up top. Its all I needed to know.
