Has anyone here ever done this? Im going to be re-gearing the front and rear this xmas and Im sure me and my friend can knock out the rear but Ive never done the front before..Any tips or advice while doing install? Do I need like a GM install kit for the front like the rear does?
The front is easier than the rear after it's out of the truck.

Good, i am a scatter brain sometimes and forget. Gonna do a T-case rebuild too. New chain, bearings, etc... plus the DA that owned it before rounded the drain plug and must JB welded it in there, nothing can break it lose. Gonna have to drill.
i'm just swapping out the complete diff on mine.
That's the hard part...unless you have a Denali, Escalade, or SSS....

The AWD's are easier to take out and reinstall because without the lock that the 4WD's have, you can take the RH tube off in the truck and deal with the pumpkin alone....without messing with the giant ''stem''....
Its fairly easy to swap gears, I think it took longer to get the axle out of the truck than it took for the gears!

Well now with the engine difficulties Im having:LOL:, Im not looking at this to be done till late 2009 probably.
No prob. LOL... one thing to remember is the damn diff is semi heavy when you try and hold it in place while fighting to get the damn thing out. When I did this on my 99 2door tahoe. I had to remove the damn T bar, and lower A arm(cause some jackass had to put the bolt in backwards) anyhow holding the thing up while trying to get the bolt out just so the damn RHS of the diff could swing down and bite me in the ass. So if you can try and get a buddy to help hold it up, or use a jack! that would make life just a bit easier!Quote:
