what is a good way to break in these ls motors with a turbo
right when you turn the key on. just start revving the sh1t out of the motor. keep on revving it. after about 10min of doing that the springs should start to settle in. after the springs settle in you should be good to try and rap it up as high as you can then let off so you can hear the bov.
THAT WHISTLEE OOOOO BOY
when your done with that, take her for a spin. put it in reverse and I dunno just go about 25 mph in reverse.. now this is the tricky part. dont press the brake but just throw it into first and hammer down. great way to roast the tires and get a good smoke show going.
hope this helps!
Fresh motor/turbo, pull the plug wires, crank her over a few times to prime the turbo and motor before she fires up.
Good point - Im used to direct igniton coil packs, didnt think about them still arcing.
its a fresh motor and it will be primed with oil before the initial start, he is just asking about the break in
ive got a oil priming system so i can do that without cranking it but what do i do once i start it up do i need to break in the cam and lifters or what
Roller cams and modern rings don't require the break in procedures of the old days.
Break in... whats that? lol.... mine was broke in with 19 psi at the track....lol
I did my break in at Denton on the drag strip...lol,, but Ive heard give it 1k miles or so b4 it really gets a good break in. im almost there..lol
I wouldnt let the engine idle for 45mins, maybe 45mins at 2000-2300rpms, but not at 650rpms, not enough oil pressure, plus not enough combustion pressure to seat the rings or have the rings start to rotate.
I owuld do a 20 minute 2200rpm high idle, drop the oil, then take it out and do some mild acceleration with little if any boost.
You must seat the rings, but these GEN 3/4 engines take thousands of miles to fully break in at leats in a NA setup.
