What is easier to do? a carb setup 5.3 swap in a OBS truck or a fuel injected setup 5.3 swap in a OBS? I know how to set up carb motors really well but not to sure on fuel injection stuff.

fuel injected setup
alright just curios and searching my options, thanks bud
What would be the point in going to a carbed 5.3? If you were to do anything carbed it would be a old school 350 or 383 possibly 400 SB. I definately would'nt even think about an lsx series motor carbed?
Not so fast...an LS2 picks up over 40hp over the fuel injection by just slapping the carb intake and an 850....that and a nice cam and your looking at over 500hp on an LS2. These motors respond well to carburetors, GM holds them back with these plastic intakes.
Oh well learn something new every day I guess.
Yeah my buddy has a carbed 5.3 in his camaro and it runs low 10s and before when he had the fuel injection he ran low 11s. i think thats a real nice gain. and im not really worried about mileage cause i only drive this truck during the summer.
I think the LSX engines are impressive either carb'd or fi.
I have a 5.3 in an obs, and stayed with the fi, as I figured all the technology and tuning would be going in that direction.
The software, though challenging to learn, gives you nearly infinite options for tuning which is very fun.
That said, the carb is definitely not dead, and some carb'd lsx engines are making big power.
My vote would be stick with the injection. FWIW
mpg's we don't need your stinking mpgs
Cam'd 5.3L (w/ some other SLIGHT mods).... mpg = 18 (hwy)
My motor's fuel injected. Thought about carb'd, but didn't like the idea of cold-starting during winter months. Someone on this board did a carb'd setup in a mid-80s truck. Don't recall any major downfall.
yeah but i dont need to worry about that cause my truck is stored from october to march. i just think carbed would be so much easier for me and a lot less work and cheaper cause i got some good holleys sittin on the shelf. and i can rebuild them real fast since both my race cars have holleys.
but what would run the coil packs? would i dtill need the pcm for them cause if i do then f it ill just fuel inject it.
iirc you can run the coil packs on a stand alone unit, but the real beauty of fi on these engines is street ability. Even a very mild cam will be difficult to tune carbed because the type of hyd roller cam used by nature has a lot of overlap and reversion. Just stick with fi imo.

This article has some good info on the subject.
nice article thanks for the help guys ill just stick with my original plan and just fi it. hopefully ill be starting real soon on it. MN Car Craft Nationals next weekend!!
