i'd Perfer the LQ9 or the LQ4!
less fabrication!
the LS2 different motor mounts and knock sensor different position..
Do the LQ4 or LQ9. They can be made to have much more power than the LS2 for about the same amount of money.
thanx that was what i was wondering now do yall know of a good place to get a lq9 for a resonable price
if you get that one ls2 for 3000 that jose found i would definitly do the ls2 over looking for an lq9....you already have the 5.3 so swapping things over should be easy
I think that you have to change the reluctor wheel on an LS2 crank to work with our trucks computers.
If you're paying $3000 for an engine you're not looking hard enough. A good LQ4 can be had for less than $1500, and a good LQ9 should be around $2000.
LQ4 has dished pistons (better for forced induction - lower compression), LQ9 are flat top (more compression). Not sure if there are other differences. There's no reason to go with an LS2 given the price and availability of the LQ's and ease of install & modification.
ok, is there any way of telling them apart without taking off the heads to look at the pistons?
Take a spark plug out and look down through the opening...
don't they have different heads?
no they both have 317's
i guess i will have to pull a plug and try to look at the piston.
I was told the LQ9 had LS6 heads.
The LS2 has LS6 heads, casting number 243. LQ9/LQ4 has 317s as mentioned.
Thought the LQ9 rods were different than the LQ4? Different material?
Full floating vs pressed fin piston pin is what I thought.
some of the LQ4s had cast iron heads and longer crank snouts that allowed the use of the old style flywheel, flexplate and transmissions.
pistons and pushrods are diff. on the LQ motors. if they are 01+ then thats the only diff. 00 down would be iron headed... LQ9 comes out of escalades, denali's and ss's only...
