Worcks great!!! Just dont put it in the intake, or vacuum hose. It will bend a rod if not done just right. 5 guys here have done it allready. If you really want to clean out your intake, buy a wet nitrous kit!!! I use it before oil changes in the oil. And in my gas. works very well to flush out oil deposits.
Its simple bro... its like pooring any liquid directly into the combustion chamber in too high a volume... Liquids dont compress. Injectors fire a mist into the combustion chamber so it can burn up before its compressed. The piston will come up and try to compress the 1/4 can of seafoam and the rod will bend... This is also known as Hydrolock. Put it in your gas tank. Or put it in the oil and let it idle for 10 mins. then imediatly change the oil. the solvent you refer too breaks up build up and gunk in the motor. look at the oil after its out.
Thanks man. The guys on the other forum mentioned hydrolock but I had no idea what it was. Being the noob I am and the fact the 'Ho is getting a tranny rebuild as I type I can't afford to bend a push rod so I don't think I'll be trying the intake manifold trick. For pour ins have you ever tried B-12 CHEMTOOLŪ CARBURETOR CLEANER / POUR IN ?
You would have bent a rod, as in whats connected to the piston. as in major damage. No problem man, thats what this forum is for. If we all share what we know, we all know more. As for the chemtool stuff, I have never used it.
Since your noob still, stay away from octane boosters, throttlebody spacers, tornado air spiralers, performance ''chips'', handhelds, and dont listen to hemi owners.
I'm glad I asked around, a trashed tranny is bad enough if I'd toasted the engine I'd need to be burried in the damned thing. As far as mods go for the 'Ho, as long as the tranny is torn down I'm having a shift kit installed. It's not the HD2 but then I don't need that kind of performance, just something to help it shift and wear better. I also picked up a 'Vette servo and an aluminum 3-4 accumulator piston (I've been paying attention). Beyond that a K&N FIPK-II is prolly the only other mod I'll do.
Thanks Jeff, I really appreciate it.
Well, Jeff--you kind of mislead him on the Seafoam thing. You can dump it into the intake via brake booster vacuum lines, but don't dump it in when the motor is shut off. You should always have the motor running while applying Seafoam. The bent rod phenomenon comes from people dumping too much in at once or by dumping the Seafoam in a vacuum line with the motor off, letting it sit, then trying to start it. Just follow the directions on the bottle. I have used it on several occassions and have seen nothing but great results--and no bent rods...partly because I am not a dumbass and know how to read and understand directions.
As for the tranny stuff--go ahead and do a Superior shift kit--they work well and are not as intensive as the Trans-go HD2 kit. It is not completely necessary to have a tune done with a shift kit install. Since you are not going to do major modifications to the tranny, you should be fine.
Speaking of your tranny--what was the reason for it stalling out? You burn up the converter? Did the pump go out?
Here's the link where I first mentioned it.

I just stopped at my mechanics. He has the whole thing torn apart. I forget what he called the part but it is a circular frame maybe 6" in diameter with I think about 4 gear type things around the circumference and a roller bearing in the middle. Yeah, I know that was about as lame a description as saying the watchamacallit. Anyway, the roller bearing went out. He thinks the filter kept the metal filings from getting to the torque converter so hopefully we dodged a bullet there. I'm going to call him in a little while to see what parts he needs. The place with the parts is 40 miles away, my wife is headed there later today and she might be able to pick them up for him, if so that would speed up the repair.
I am not a tranny expert, but it sounds like you are trying to describe your planetary gears. From the sounds of it, your transmission fluid pump went out, causing the roller bearings to seize and break apart. Roller bearings have tiny needles in them that may have passed through the filter. I am sure your tranny guy will be able to find out if they got into the rest of the tranny and converter or not. Good luck with getting it fixed...
It was the sun gear. My wife picked up the sun gear and the rebuild kit, they charged her the mechanics rate. $155, would have been 2X that if she had paid retail. He felt the torque converter would be okay, the fluid that came out of it wasn't black and it had no metal filings in it. It was his recommendation to not replace it, said he put one that was much worse than in mine back in his sons car with no problems. He added that if it went out in a short amount of time he'd stand behind it since it was his recommendation not to replace it. I'll post up on that other thread when all is said and done with the full report.
The sun gear and sun shell are the same thing. Usually when they break, you do not need a torque converter also. It should be a simple fix for you.
I wondered about that so I asked the mechanic and he said they aren't. He said they use to have problems with the sun shell breaking but they've made them stronger so it's not a problem as much.
Here is the pic of a sun shell you showed me earlier.

This is kind of what the sun gear he showed me looks like.

I think the sun gear goes in the sun shell.
at least you got it figured, out. And I dont care what Tyler says. I respect him and he knows allot but there has been 2 guys here that asked about seafoam, and I told them not to, while others said just read directions. They did and both had to rebuild their motors. And I said If you HAD a tune, to get a retune for the servo's. And if yoyu get a Nelson Tune be sure to mention you have a servo, in. Good luck with the tranny. Dont pour anything into thebrake hose, or intake... unless you can afford to rebuild if you make a mistake. :thumb:
What's the moral of this story????
Tyler is a douche!
Eff you clowns! The guys who effed up their motors did something wrong--as in they didn't follow the directions. I have used Seafoam on several different occassions on several different vehicles. I followed the directions exactly and HAVE NOT had to replace a motor. And I can guarantee that 99.9% of the Seafoam users out there have followed the directions and received excellent results. There is always that select few people who don;t follow the directions and screw stuff up for everyone else. Jeff, you ever heard of the saying, "One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch?"
Exactly.
