how bad is the lag in power?
are ATI's products considered as dependable as the Radix?
thanks guys, as you can tell I'm still on the fence about which one to get.
I'm not too familiar with ATI products, or radix for that matter. But I do know that almost anyone I meet with a truck that has a s/c, its a radix or procharger.
Personally, I would rather have one of those STS Turbo kits that Allen is considering selling. They are such a sleeper mod. If anyone looked under the hood they would just think you had a really big air intake. Especially since the turbo is mounted under the vehicle. :rock:

the boost lag isnt as bad as everyone says. It all just depends on what your trying to do. If you want somthing thats good for towing and you want alot of low end then go with a radix or whipple. If your strickley racing and performance go with the procharger. Procharger has a air to air intercooler wich is more effieciant then air to water like the radix uses. I was running 12lbs of boost on a stock motor with full timing. I could have ran 14lbs and i might have had to pull a degree or 2 compared to whipples pulling 10 degrees. On my truck the procharger was the perfect fit i put tuns of timing in the low end just to get me out of the whole till about 2k rpms then boost kicked in and the truck would just continue to pull. I never bought a stall to that would fix the whole lag problem right there. My buddie put a ridix on his truck and weve ran into a couple of problems with that. He put a 6.0 motor in it with 8 to 1 compression with all forged internals. he bought the radix fo it and he intended to run like 20lbs of boost. The problem is that no one makes pulleys over 9lbs, And the compressor is too small for the motor to the blower dosent kick into boost till 3k rpms. we were going to swap out the radix compressor and put a whipple one on it becuse the whipple compressor is a better unit by far. the radix uses a true roots style compressor that prouces way to much heat. whipple superchargers would be a great kit if they were intercooled. But we have decided it would be alot easyier and alot more performance if we sold the whole radix kit and went with a procharger with a f1 compressor. He should be able to run like 25lbs with that set up. the radix is a good kit for stock trucks for overall power but if your going for track times I think procharger is the way to go. Look whats on the fastest ls1 in the world its a procharger.
Man, wouldn't there be high losses with that kit? I mean, its damn near the back of the truck. The boost gauge would be right at the inlet right, I couldn't see in the pics (not sure what to look for). I guess that helps with not needing an intercooler? Why go all teh way back like that? Seems like it's asking for trouble in terms of road debris?Quote:

how will that kit work with a low truck?
blown 02, do you have any pics of the install?
also, how do the stock injectors hold up?
i didnt take any pics of the install. The stock injectors hold up fine. Every thing bolts right up on the kit its just time consuming
I know the setup looks odd, but read these FAQs and it will answer any questions u have. I thought the same thing about the delay but according to them it won't be a problem.Quote:

What about ground clearance with the turbo down low on LT1?
Ground clearance hasn't been a problem as all of the kit sits higher than the stock equipment. I've cringed a few times going over crap in the road or over nasty speed bumps and stuff, but have never hit anything. The new LS1 kit has a couple low spots on the charge air piping but both spots are at the wheels so the car should pick up as the wheels go over bumps and give it added clearance.

All I would want is some type of shrou. I mean road debris, plus salt and all that crap has to take some toll. Get a little gash in the casing and then expose it to the ellements...i dunno. I'm just skeptical I guess. Not trying to question everything, but I wonder what you would lose if you put it right after the cat, but before the muffler, heck even before the cat, just somewhere a little more tucked away without being in the engine compartment. Less distance to travel.

I see what ur saying, but if the turbo is mounted "higher than the stock equipment" that would mean you would have to be draggin the frame to actually hurt the thing.Quote:

As far as debris hitting it...well dodge the potholes and the roadkill. I mean even without the turbo, if you have a 4/6 drop ur gonna be dodgin everything that isn't level pavement anyways.
turbos are more efficient on heat. more heat the better, to an extent. all the way back there would lose alot of heat and power potential.
Id say procharger for racing, radix for towing, but if i had the money i wouldnt be choosey
i love to see people pst that pic i have seen it a thousand times and you know what you allreaddy have that under your hood. your headers get like that if you are at high RPM for an extended period of time. this picture was probably on a duno run where the motor was at about 6500rpm for about 30 seconds. This is why people wrap them and they wrap turbos also. also this is why heat shields are used.
I don't think the point of the picture was to say that nothing else in your engine produces heat. It's just pointing out that no one would really want a glowing hot turbo under their hood if they were able to mount it elsewhere with the same results, if not better.Quote:

agreif: I think a shroud would be nice to have also. I mean, even if it did absolutely nothing for the turbo, at least you would peace of mind knowing your investment is covered.:lol:
I'm sure that would be a pretty simple thing to make if you did get a turbo. Just get some sheet metal and weld up some kind of box around it.
The image of that hot turbo next to a carpeted floor scares the hell out of me. Imagine that hot turbo heat soaking your floor board after you park your truck after a couple of hard runs. You come out later to the sounds of fire trucks coming to extinguish your burning truck interior. Damn, what a scary thought.
