I have an 06 4.8 that i removed stock air box and put a cone air filter at the end of my mass air flow sensor. Now I'm thinking of removing intake tube and putting sensor & cone directly to intake. I already measured and it will work.Just wondering if anybody has expieremented with this?
your iat's would stay to hot especially since hot weather is just around the corner...the cooler air coming from your fender well where the stock one sits right now is prolly the best place to get the cooler air
Here is a quick rule of thumb... For every 10* drop in temperature, you get a 1% increase in power so if the temp under your hood is 170* and you are pulling in cool air out side that is 70* If your putting 230hp to the wheels you will gain approxitmatly a 23hp gain over drawing in the hot air under the hood. . and the reverse is also true... Thats why it seems like the truck runs better in cooler air than hot.
1% of 230 is 2.3 just a thought but yea id keep it in stock location unless u have a hood or something to draw cold air into that locale.
1% of 230 is 2.3, but you gain 1% per 10 degree loss in temp. So If you have a cold air intake, on a sunny day at 80* and a cold day of 30* thats 50 degrees difference, so roughly 5% gain.Quote:

If your pulling in the air from out side it would be about 294hp
so right now i have the lid off my air box which means its also allowing alittle bit of the engine heat to get to it do you think i would be better off putting the lid back on and and cutting a whole in the bottom of the box and let it get cold air from under the truck? sorry about ?s just 16 yrs old trying to get every little bit of horses i can the cheap way
Yes... It has been proven that that mod will make you go faster... At least I know 2k5squirral and the ls1 guys do this mod.

yes... at the very least... here is a pic of mine http://www.ls1truck.com/upload/files/40/intake.jpg see how the ''roll cage padding'' seals to the bottom of the hood, so no hot air gets in.
yeah, if you dont want to buy a kit, get a k&n drop in and cut out bottom of box and mounting plate. only if you dont do 65 going thru huge puddles
