I have a really nice 96 Suburban 2500 2wd with the 6.5 TD. I can't stand the price of Diesel and all the engine noise. I was thinking about selling off the 6.5 TD and swapping in a LSx. Would it be any harder or easier on a diesel truck? I have the 4L80E trans, will that work or should I just get the trans that comes with an LSx motor?

Sell off the whole truck and buy a NBS truck. You can do it but its going to be quite a chore. If you've got a lot of patience and deep pockets, it won't be too bad. Unless you drive a 50k a year you'll not do much better on fuel costs in the long run if you factor in the conversion costs. :twocents:
Oh yeah, the TD has a different bellhousing shape on the transmission to engine mount if I remember correctly.
The problem is a NBS is well over $10k and I only paid $3500 for this one and it's near mint. Also I don't really like the look of the NBS suburban. I would most likely buy a wreck and just swap everything over. I'm just wondering if there is anything specific to the diesel that I need to watch out for...
It shouldn't be much different other than the fact that the diesel used a lift pump from the fuel tank to the injector pump, no intank fuel pump. The fuel pressure on the lift pump was only about 15 PSI. I can't remember if theres a return line to the fuel tank. The conversion is quite possible to be done. One nice item is that you already have the hydraboost power brake setup. :thumb:
Maybe you could just convert it to fry oil.
Diesel prices aren't the major factor. I can't take the noise any more and the power is not that great. I think a nice LQ4 in there would be much more fun. If I could get 14-15mpg on the highway I would be happy.

I am on the way to swap a drivetrain out of a K1500 1997 Tahoe into a 1997 K2500 6.5TD Suburban. But I will use the 5,7 Vortec and it's original 4L60E, I only swap the transfercase from the 4L80E to the 4L60E. I try to use the fuel pump assembly out of the Tahoe, but I am wondering if it will fit in the fuel tank of the Suburban?
Did you recieve any more info on this?
Sorry, I haven't found anything out about the tank yet. How many gallons is the Tahoe tank?
