2000.00 what to do with it. Help please.

Well I sold my watch. The money is ear marked for the truck. My 5.3 is currently choking due to a broken exhaust manifold not letting me put headers on. Only fix for that is to pull the head and replace it. I screwed the hole up way too bad to fix. I do not want to spend the dough on heads for a 5.3 I just don't feel it is worth it. Don't want to use nitrous with the meth and the whipple which is at 8lbs. I could also sell the whipple for about 3000 at least thats my guess. Then I'd have 5k to play with.
My wifes TBSS can out run me and that makes me sad. I want that kind of power and then some. What to do what to do?
If I bought a 6.0 to put in I would have to at least put a cam kit in it to go with the whipple as well as headers. Thats at least a grand.
I thought about the new turbo kit but my truck is 4wd. I am betting the $3900.00 trick kit is for a 2 wheel drive. Damn I need some suggestions.

Well, considering you already have an FI 5.3L, I say 6.0L. You have the tranny to back it up, so go ahead! You can easily find a decent 6.0L laying around for about $1200. Here is one on Ebay with 80K miles for $715. Take the remaining funds and do a cam kit. Then you'll love it! Just swap over all of your other mods, and you are set!!!

If I had FI and was content with the exterior. I would save it. Cause it would suck if you spent it on more go fast goodies and you crashed it, or it had bad wires and burnt up. Hell If the wife doesnt know about it. Wait until you get more money and get a setup Like that Denali got.

I already have more than 35 thousand in the truck. The wife does know but I told her she can't have it. I could not make myself spend as much as that Denali has had spent on it. I more of a go fast than look good guy. and That was just too much money.

The trick turbo kit works for 4wds too. A guy put down a hair over 500rwhp in a 4wd 5.3 with just an LS6 cam and I belive 8 or 9#s of boost. I would throw the 6.0 in there with a cam and run that for a while and save for the turbo kit. Ranwalk on PT put down 545rwhp(or something close to that) with a whippled 6.0 and cam but he is 2wd.

Well here is the TBSS that is faster than my truck.

Head question? er well a question. Should I just get heads and a cam to slam on my 5.3 along with the much needed headers. If so what heads could I use on another higher cube engine or should I just forget the head cam idea and go for a lq9.

well that is a good question(s)....i would invest in a 6.0...with your current setup...then save the rest for the new tvs1900...i bet running 9 lbs with it would roast the TBSS....just my two cents

I would go for the 6.0 and cam route, the 6.0 is going to be a more streetable setup given everything else is constant. Also heads for a 5.3 really cant be used on other things because they start out with such a small combustion chamber to begin with(61.1cc) so if you went to some 243 heads(64cc) you would be in the low 9.0 CR range which would be nice but I would be afraid of out of boost driveability with a cam, less CR and larger intake runners which all contribute to less power down low at cruise rpm. That all is of course if you use your truck as a truck if its just a toy then it would be ok.

Come on guys I want to call some of the area salvage yards and spend this 1800 that is left after my wife robbed me. She didn't even give me a reach around.

2001 or newer LQ4, all LQ9s will work. I would go with an LQ4 and try and find one that is an 05 or newer those come with the ls2 timing set which is a bit more stout and the rods from LQ9s which are beefier too. 05+ is what I would do with something around a 214/220 on a 114, good exhaust bias for the blower and wide lsa, but will haul ass with the low stall you want. Ask Daniel how he likes my cam choice for his truck:devil:

+1 on Cody's comments regarding the 6.0L selection. And the cam is a good call too, but he could get away with something a little bigger---but yes, something with a bias towards the exhaust...maybe a 218/224 .563/.581 114 LSA. Oh, and I would also highly recommend you slapping on some LT headers. It will work well with the FI and cam...

what kind of gears are you running?

that doesn't seem right to me tbss is 400hp if your whippled with 8psi you should be somewhere in the 450hp range all i can think is gearing or your truck isnt running very good like you said. hmm :cowl:

3.73s the problem is at any rpm over 3500 it starts to fall on its face because I don't have long tube headers. It can't exhale all that is going in it and the whipple starts heating up big time. IATS get too high. I would have long tubes but my head has a broken bolt in it and I screwed it up too bad trying to get it out. I would rather replace the whole engine than 1 head.

I just bought a 45k mile LQ9 from LKQ. 1950.00 + 240 for a core charge.
I am a little happier now. I am supposed to be able to pick it up tomorrow but who knows when I will be able to put it in. Now I need to chose and order a cam kit. Alright so where are the deals on cam and spring packages? ? ? ? ? ?

No just burnt plastic. Gonna burn some more to. Wife pissed me off pretty bad she will get over it.:devil: I am tempted to go ahead and buy some heads while I am at it.

Alot of people will try and steer you towards bigger cams but the simple fact of the matter is smaller cams create larger torque down low and thats what makes a heavy ass truck fun to drive. You are going with a TIGHT stall so you need a good hit right off the line. The Whipples dont produce instant boost like the roots blowers do, the lysholms take a little to wind up all the way but they also have greater CFM potential so I would use a small cam to get you going and use the up top power potential of the lysholm to carry you through up top. A small cam is going to make your truck a tire frying beast when just toodling around town and nailing it. A larger cam will give you great top end but will be lacking a bit down low with a tight stall. If it was me I would go with a 3000 stall and step the cam up to a 218/224 or maybe even a 220/226. The 6 degree split has been shown to be the ticket on most blowers period unless you are running L92s then the splits get crazy something around 14-18* splits:eek: Heads arent that big of a deal on a blown app, I would hold off on that as your last mod unless you just want to go ahead and get it over with. You would gain around 40hp with a good set of heads from WCCH if not more but a cam is more bang for the buck. An LQ9 is nice but it is going to limit you on boost potential since it has a .6 higher CR then the LQ4 it will act better out of boost though. When it comes time for heads I would try and use WCCHs 74cc heads with a .06 HG to lower the CR as much as possible.

The whipple has no lag at all. It is instant power. The moment you start mashing the gas it goes.

I know it starts building boost but you arent instantly at peak boost are you? From the whipple and radix trucks Ive ridden in my observations were that the radix built full boost within 300-500rpm but it fell off up top, the whipple took about 1000-1500 with a small ass pulley to net 10#s of boost on a cammed 6.0 and carried it all the way to the shift and maintaned full boost after the shift. I imagine your boost comes on a little quicker since you are running a smaller motor and stock cam but throwing a bigger cam in there and more displacement means the charger has to breathe harder to fill the cylinders. And remember boost is a function of resistance so a bigger motor with a better flowing cam shaft has less resistance then a stock cam 5.3. Just my observation on what Ive seen and heard from first hand people.

Ok..now for the mods...a cam kit is definitely the first thing to do. You can pick up a custom grind Comp cam and accessories for about $699 shipped from TSP. Like I said at the top of this page--I would go with a 218/224 .563/.581 114+3 LSA.

Well I just thought my boost came on quick.

Another thought considering the LQ9 has 10 to 1 compression. Sell the whipple and buy some heads or keep the whipple.. . . . . . . .. . . Hell I am not sure.

It is a good cam and is a proven performer in his truck. The gt2-3 is similar, they definately have some weird grinds but they perform. I would keep the whipple if it was me. A set of heads isnt going make as much hp as a whipple on stock heads.

Zeake sent me a PM asking for my advice and also sent a link to this... I sent this to him before i ever made it to this link ..... I almost put a GT2-3 in my 410" motor... but i went alot bigger... I know your dont want to spend money but .... your cam choices are limited because of the whipple... huge cam will kill your boost on a big motor... RUNWALK on PT.net made the most rwhp of anyone with a whipple being 504rwhp... You could stand to put that whipple on a high compression lq9 then install a decent cam.. Dont start out with low static compression then you have to have tons of boost to make it make power... Lq9 and all the boost that whipple will make with a 218/224 or something close... Better thoughts Sell the whipple while its off and Jump on that D1sc for 2600.00 install a 228/234 cam and jump 100+ hp... best you will see with that whipple being 500s tops... I will bet only 440-460... that D1 will push you over 550 I had a whipple Cody and i think Runwalk might have made 550 but that was on Nitrous also??... I remeber 504... LQ9 is a good Choice for keeping the whipple !!.... Get a set of Pacesetters Cat less Y Pipe 550.00 I dont see a reason to waste money on 1000.00 headers/exhaust install a G2-3 spring,pushrods... and give the whipple a try... Ditch the Electronics and give the whipple another try ... After that ditch the whipple and Get a Procharger :doofus:

depending how many miles are on the truck id personally just fix the head and spend the money on a set of headers.. i know the 6.0 had more potential but there isn't much improvement for the time and money hes gonna have to put into it.. he could run one more psi and make up for the difference between the 5.3 and the 6.0 or close to it. fix the head ... cam and headers and a nice tune you'll be cooking .. also think about going up to 4:10s or maybe bigger (depends what you do with the truck) 3:73's are decent ... i just went from 3:23's to 5:13's its nuts to say the least.. I have a t56 tranny though that the only reason i can go that high with the gears (.5 final drive) without slaughtering my mileage. just set it up right and you'll have to change your sig i promise

I was thinking some time next year upgrading to a Trick turbo. The whipple won't be around forever.
