have question about transmission wiring for 6.0 swap to a 98 suburban

i have been doing a lot of research about this and really can not find a straight answer.

I have a 98 4X4 suburban with a 5.7 that i am swapping in a 6.0 from a 2001 4X4 2500. i have the complete wiring harness and computer. i have read 2 or 3 different things about this topic. i know i need to keep my stock pcm to controle the abs, a/c, air bags, and some guages. the gray area for me in the tranny and speed sensor wiring.
Do i keep the tranny and transfer case wiring intact from the 98 and use it? or do i use the 6.0 harness (the plugs look to be the same)? if i have to go this route do i have to tie into the factory 98 harness? if so how.

Use the stock transmission and transfer case. Get the pilot extension for the torque convertor to extend it out to new engine's crankshaft pilot bore. I'm thinking it was Hughes that make the extension. The wires for the speedometer pickup sensor will need to be tied into the old PCM to make all the old equipment work.

You may not need the extension with the 2001 flywheel if its the flat model. The flat flywheel is used on the longer crankshaft and will mate up to the old converter without issue.

You Do Not have to keep the Black Box PCM to control the ABS, Airbags, A/C, or gauges. I would rework the stock harness to run the 6.0L I have a 2001 PCM controlling my 98 Distributored Vortec truck.

lextech, i would like to know more info about how to eliminate the stock pcm. and only run one harness and pcm.

You can strip it down but its a whole lot more work, I mean a lot more work than just tieing into whats already there. I stripped both my 92 and 93 to nothing and tied the LS1 harness into the factory harness.

i want a clean install, and do not want a bunch plugs that do nothing all over the place. i know i am going to use most all of the plugs from the 6.0 harness for engine function. i am really stumped about the tranny functions. the harness i have is from a 4x4 and all of the plugs look to be the same, if i can use the 6.0 harness for engine and tranny functions how do i tie it into the factory 98 harness to make guages and the push button 4x4 work? or will i have to run 2 water temp and oil psi senders

I don't have the 2001 6.0L pinouts. RedHeartBeat is correct. It is a lot of work to integrate 2 harnesses together, But it makes for a much cleaner job---Just look at his truck. There are companies that can rework your 98 harness to suit your needs.

do you know where i can find the pinouts for the 6.0 as well as the 98? i used to have a user name and password for all data but it does not work any more.

sent 2002 LS1 pinout for the PCM, the truck uses the same PCM so same pinout for the truck harness.

thanks again for the pinouts for the ls1 but i am still stumped. i think i might have gotten over my head but it is too late to turn back now. i just talked to a buddy of mine on the phone that used to work at TRT and he told me you you know your stuff.

can i use the 6.0 harness to run the engine and tranny functions?
lf so do how do i make the push button 4X4 and gauges work? i just went and bought a chinton manual for the 89 as well as the 2001 i think i have it figured out but i do not want to mess any thing up.

i would like to get more info myself.
i purchased a complete, i mean complete 2006 motor and trans.
for my 97 and i have the motor mounts etc, im really ready to set it in.:hyper2:
but i just need to know if i could just use my 2006 harness and just zip tie or whatever my 97 harness and just set it out of the way?
my 2006 has EVERYTHING gas tank included:yippee:

i did alot more digging and looking for info on this swap after i posted this.
i was going to run 2 harnesses and pcm's but the more i looked into it i was going to have to cut and tie into the factory harness to make everything work so i just pulled what i needed out of the 98 harness and trashed the rest. i dont know about the 97 but on my 98 about 99% of the wire colors and circuit numbers are the same from 98 to 2001 (my 6.0 came out of an 01)
i am doing the wiring myself but if i had to do it again i would send both harnesses to someone and have them converted.

im doing a similar swap in a 2001 yukon denali 5.7 vortec/4l60/4X4 my truck is going to be used mainly for towing ive found a 2001 6.0 with a 4l80/4X4 and i would like to replace my 60e with the 80e does anyone know the complications to this?

i will be sending my harness to Spear Tech. I really like dealing with John over there at spear tech. he is very very helpful.
i have a 06 complete 5.3 motor trans wiring cpu etc etc.
John said to send him my harness and for 450 he can cut out whats not needed for my truck and add the iac and the tps wires for the cable driven throttle body.
i have to purchase the throttle body and i will be purchasing a return style fuel rails also for the 06 motor.
also i have a 411 ecm he said he would swap it out for the 04 gto ecm so it will work with my 06 harness.
i have tried to get that kind of info from others and its like TOP SECRET, just send me your money is all i get from these others or i get someone who just sits on the other end of the phone and says "ummm yea ummm yea, if you want to, ummm yea we have done that before"
