Guys, here are pics of what happens to a re-grind after a little while.
We tried several times, but they will not work.
Also, if you measure several different times for pushrod length, you get more than one measurement.
Just trying to share and help someone avoid a potential problem.

Yep, cams are case hardened which means that the surface of the journal is heat treated .050" to maybe .100" deep and when you regrind the journal it removes the heat treated section of steel, down to the soft stuff.
that one looks like it got tha **** beat outta it pretty bad...
so will this happen with custom grinds ?
not custom grinds, re-grinds.
It works on some old school motors, but will not on LSx motors.
There are no issues with reputable grinders; Comp, Crane, Vinci, etc..
thats def some ugly stuff there. Was there any other engine damage as a result, besides the obvious new set of lifters.
only the lifters, but that was not long term use. They start to break down pretty quick.

i've got a friend who's a got a lq4 with a cam that was cam doctored or something like that...been runnin the piss out of it for almost 2 years now...
I thought cam doctor was a device that measures the cam lobes and valve timing events?
yeah cam doctor is just a deal hooked to a computer to read all the ramp rates and basically blue prints the cam specs.
he could have had the cam mikronite(sp?) coated or something like that, that is supposed to help with wear.
I have seen some factory cores reground with great succes.
1 thing to remember when thinking about regrinding a cam is.....what are the specs of the cam now and what do you want to go to.
If you decide to regrind.....I wouldn't suggest changing the LSA at all.
You will also want to keep the lift about the same and maybe only change the dur. @ .050 10 degrees MAX!!!!
This will allow the cam grinder to remove the least amount of material possible.
This is TRUE for ALL cam cores from any manufacture.
Also...if a cam has been reground once....you might get by with one more regrind.....but I would never chance that.
