Tire & Rim help needed
I'm running mid 600's at the rear wheel in a 1996 GMC K1500. I want to run it down the track this spring but need a good set of tires and rims under it. I don't think the Michelin AT's will cut it. I'm also interested in the widest tire on the front and the back I can fit without trimming. Any help here woud be greatly appreciated.

Mickey Thompson ET Streets work good for most guys.
-
Yes, I've looked at those and the ET Street Radial. I think I like the radial. The only thing I don't like is the wet traction. I probably should have clarified that I would like to run these around town also. The truck is driven a lot in the summer.
What size would you recommend?
-
Not sure on sizes, buddy - just know at the track a lot of guys run the MT ET Streets. That's about as far as my knowledge goes.

NP, any and all input is beneficial.

I would try and keep you stock setup for the street and then do some DR's for the track--similar to the ones Yankee said... You could probably do with some 28" or 29.5" at the biggest. I think there are some 26.5" out there, but those may be too small. Are you running 2WD or 4WD at the track??

I'll be running 2WD until I get the Atlas transfer case installed then I will be doing 4WD runs.

Do you think these would fit?
Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R
28X10.00R18LT for the Front
28X12.00R18LT for the Rear

Does anyone know if I can fit 15" rims and tires on this truck without modifying the brake rotors, calipers, etc.?
-
Rick, the best street radial I've found is made by M&H. They are 275/55R16 - 28" diameter though. I was very disappointed in the Nitto's I ran before. I can get you 10% off of a set if interested. Web addy is MH Racemaster, MandHtires.com, Drag Slick, Drag Radial, Cheater Slick, DOT
Tread Width: 8.8"
Section Width: 10.9"
Diameter: 28.0"
Circumference: 88.0"
Rim Size: 9.0"

BTW, yes you can fit a set of 15" wheels and tires on the truck without modification. You should be able to fit a set of 11" wide wheels under the back with no extending out the wheel wells like I have but mine are 17" diameter. Below is a pic.
