I want to get some e-fans for my truck. I found these on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33600
They seem to be a good deal even though there is a crack, not sure if this effect anything. Just let me know what y'all think. How much should I expect to pay if I go to a salvage yard.
Thanks for all the info

Measure your rad. My was smaller than the part they called out for. The 282 electric fan from flex-a-lite will run around $400 new. The one I had to get was 16.5x28 ran around $200 new. So if it fits it will be a good price. Call a salvage yard and what they want for one.
-
that is a good price, you'll pay about 120 at your local junkyard. those fans really cool well,
just make sure they fit your radiator , at least good enuff to mount them.
i say go for it if they fit,

These fans cool really well and are the ones I'm going to use. They run anywhere from $70 to $150. The crack doesn't look very bad could be repaired. You will need a wireing harness of some kind and some relays. The measurments for the camero fans are 28" x 18" x5" so should fit a bunch of apps.

just got me a pari a few weeks ago....$91(shipped) off ebay

the cheapest way is to do what i do, cost was: a couple of bucks for the relays, each; two circuit breakers or use fuses; a few crimpable connectors, and some 10gauge wire.
you can then either hook it up to the pcm (which is very easy truck or z28 pcm) or buy a temp switch that screws into the radiator tank or the probe type that goes into the radiator fans.
Very easy to do and worth it. either way you don't need to worry about turning on the fans. if you want them to come on all the time. simply set your thermostat ( switch or probe) to trigger at 160 degrees, that way they will always be on when the engine warms up.
just follow this diagram and you'll be set, substitute the pcm with the switched thermo. or probe.

Well, I wasn't able to get the Fans previously mentioned in this topic. They went to someone else for about 96 dollars, I think. But, I just one a set of fans today for 66 dollars and aproximatley 17 - 20 dollars in shipping and handling :jump:. I think I have a friend around here that will be able to help me install them, if he's not too busy. Thanks farmtruc for the information on how to hook them up to the pcm. Is there any programming needed to turn on this function, or will it automaticaly work.

If you want the pcm to turn the fans on, you'll have to have the pcm adjusted. The truck pcm has the fans set to like 270deg.,
I think this is the best way to have the fans turn on , and i really regret waiting so long to hook it up this way. It's nice not to have to worry about them coming on.
If you're interested, send me your pcm and i'll set them to whatever you want for $35. That's about what a relay setup for a thermostat from painless will cost.
btw, you'll gain a few more hp's with the electric setup.

well, to be honest, it would take less time to drive 3hrs down there to see him, let him do that, drive back.. mail would take a day or 2 to get there and then the same to go back. He sent me shit and its still not here, he sent it 2 or 3 days ago.. slow ass oklahoma mail ppl!

I didn't realize you were that close, hell ya, we would just meet up and i could change the program and it would be in there when you're ready.
You wouldn't have to have the fans installed or anything. We could probe the pcm pin so that you can see it will ground when the pcm activates the signal line.
let me know, it would be simple and cheap, plus there's less wiring and you don't have that dorky temperature probe thingy ma bopper. lol
hopefully see ya soon,
allen
edited: i even think there is an unsed connector on the passenger side of the wiring harness. You could use that that wire as a signal wire.

Let me know if you are comeing down mabey we could all get together and eat or something

I am planning on setting them up the way farmtruc did, running them into them into the pcm and also setting up a manual switch to get me by until I can get the pcm flashed. I would like to come down, It will most likely be after I graduate school in a couple of weeks. I will most likely bring my wife and turn it into a mini vacation. I would like to meet up with some of y'all and have lunch or dinner.
-
That sounds like a plan, i can't wait, good idea gmcwantsls1.
keep us updated on the fan progress, i'd like to know how it turned out. you'll enjoy the when the pcm is done, i hated worring about the manual switch and always keeping an eye on the temp gauge, i'm just now getting used to not looking at it every 5 mins, lol

Nah, but knowing those guys, you might need to get her preoccupied so you can goto the titty bars! I wish i could freakin go, wish this job would happen or not.. i need a TRUCK NOW!!!!
-
She doesn't care if I go to titty bars, but she won't want to sit alone in a hotel while I go, so I may have to sit that one out.
-
No biggy, bring her along and maybe if it's a friday we can go to the track, i'll try to talk my wife into going and they can talk, plus i don't like leaving my wife alone either and she'd kill me if i went to one  so i'm a good boy.
just let me know when you want to come down, we'll go get something to eat, hang out, and shoot the shit.
