A buddy of mine had an 88 chevy single cab stepside with a 350 horse crate motor and was putting down 2.85 second 60ft times. he changed the stock tank out for a suburban fuel tank and dropped the 60ft times to 2.45seconds. Thats pretty damn good i think for a truck on street tires. He spent about 100 bucks doing the tank relocation. That is a hell of a lot cheaper than a 22 gallon fuel cell and having to mess with the fuel sending unit or Module whatever you want to call it and an external fuel pump and AN fittings. Does anyone know how much the step side bed weighs compared to the wide bed? On a bumpy road my truck bounces all over the place where the wide beds dont so it must be a pretty significant difference. The only drawback is that you cant use your stock fuel door anymore and you have to fill the truck up from inside the bed. Im sure someone can find a way to make it where you fill the truck up from the normal gas door. does anyone have any ideas? Just a thought for anyone who hasnt thought of it or didnt want to mess with a fuel cell? let me know what you think. :burnout:

I just swapped beds on my truck and I weighed it before when it was a fleetside but I haven't weighed it since I put the stepside on. I will try to get that done this week and let you know.
-
i've got a 2001 silverado and my 60' times are 2.09's on street tires.:thumb:
so i think it wouldnt be very hard to get that one that quick off the line.
-
im re-locating my dual optimas to the rear just behind the cab and my fuel cell is all the way behind the axle
-
2.85 60 ft times are terrible for a 350 hp motor, even 2.40's...either he has an open diff, or he's just spinnin em all to hell and back.
as for weight, good idea on the tank deal, i dont know if the beds are that big of a difference. mine is a work truck and still has the v6 leaf springs. it outta squat pretty well.
-
I dont know if he has an open diff or what. I think he times were more to do with the driver maybe. The track at evadale where he ran that time was new so maybe the track didnt have that much rubber put down yet. Im not trying to make excuses for my friend, i dont care my 60 ft times with my other truck are usually 2.01 pluss or minus a few hundreths but i have slicks. Hell maybe i cant drive either. I dont care what they are as long as i have fun with it thats all its about for me. I have a 91 sc with the step side bed and mine feels like the ass end is way lighter than a wide bed is. I put new shocks on it thinking that maybe my shocks were worn out, and letting the sprigs bounce away. but it barely helped. the old shocks looked to be original shocks but i could be wrong. They were blue if that means anything. There wasnt any oil stains on them where it looked like they might have leaked, it could be because the oil leaked out a long ass time ago and it finally washed off. I dont know. I finally had to get new u joints after a quarter million miles. Im supprised that the stock ones lasted that long. Has anyone else had u joints last that long? It this a new thing for the u joints to last this long? Its a bitch having to heat the plastic shit out of them to get the caps out. I never would have thought that gm would use plastic to hold u joints in but it works. Does anyone know what kind of plastic they use? I looked at the shit and it looks like it has some kind of fiber in it like fiberglass. Who knows. Anyway thanks for the info on the 60 foot times and stuff now i know what i need to shoot for. Im still a novice so bare with me on the 1/4 mile stuff. I have only been to the track a few times. How the hell do you people find the time for this stuff? Between school work and a fiance i dont have the time. Maybe i should get rid of the fiance. :duh: Im really gaining a lot of knowledge that other guys are reluctant to give up. Thanks :burnout:

I guess you gotta make time when ever you can.
Hell I'm jugglin a 7:00AM - 3:30Pm job, + a Wife, and a new born baby.
But it's all worth it.
I love racin, but maybe not as much as I love my baby girl.
But I do go to the track when i can :thumb:

Have you been to evadale yet? they got some cool shit out there. Thats where i got my ass handed to me by an ls1 truck. I gbot beat by a damn 16 year old girl. Then she drove her punk ass home. She beat me pretty good to. Its amazing what an ls1 truck will do with a 200 shot. I dont even think she was spraying the full 200. She was probably only spraying like 100 or 150. Talk about make me look bad with her low 12 second run. The ls1's made me think again about how bad my 454 was. If you have been to evadale you might have seen her. She has a white stepside. She raced at the super chevy show last year.
-
was this truck white w/blue interior and a cowl hood?
and a blond hair girl driving it?
and where is evadale?
-
Evadale is out past beaumont. Im not sure what color the interior was it did have a cowl hood and it was white. I dont know what the girl looks like. Her windows were tinted enough to where i couldnt tell if she was blonde or not her profile looked to be like she was a little chunky :burnout:
-
that was who i thought it was if your near beaumont
yeah she doesnt talk much I bought some 3.73's from her dad a few months ago. and by the way you got beat by all motor.
she doesnt run on the gas.
her name is Amyracinrose. and she runs low 12 high 11's in that beast.
you ot to come out to baytown thats where i run.
and there is pletty of trucks out there for you to mess with
-
I dont think my 15 second runs would even compete with a ricecar. I really didnt want to know i got beat all motor. Now i really feel bad. Not only did i get my ass kicked by a girl but she did it all motor. I have a mild 454 and N2o. The first time i ran her i ran her with no juice and regular pump gas and that was an ass beating from hell. I really need to sell my truck and get an ls1. Do you know anymore about what she did to her truck. How do you know her?
-
she used to post on LS1tech. and she had also brought that same truck out to the southern shootout last october in lousianna.
she was runnin high 11's to low 12's there.
her dad built her a 5.7L monster.
all out race truck. built trans, gears, stall, suspension, everything you could think of to put in the motor.
I ran her out at the shootout. thats when my dial in was a 15.5. hell i had a 3 second jump on her and she caught me at the end. good thing for me she broke out and I was able to advance to the next round.
I'm not saying I can keep up with her now. but I'm getting there.
so dont feel bad, about getting beat by her. all she does is drive it. her dads the one who built it. he is one bad dude too.
Last I heard they where wanting to sell that truck. that was back in oct. must not have found anyone to by it. put a shot of nitrous on there and you've got yourself a 10 second truck.
-
I think that truck is on southeasttexas.com. I thought i saw it but i wasnt sure if it was the truck i thought it was. If i remember right for the price they were asking they must have put the stock motor back in because all it said the truck had was a trans go shift kit
-
what where they asking.
when they where trying to sell it back in Oct. they want 14,000 for as is.
with the 5.7L and the whole setup.
-
I dont know i think like 10,000 or so. im not sure the site wont load on my computer right now. maybe it will work for you got to southeasttexas.com
-
found the web site but couldn't find anything on her truck.
-
I hope someday to do all that to mine. Have a truck as fast as Amyracinrose! :thumb:
