well for the full time aburn lsd with 4/10 gears installed.... they want $1,142.62????? does that sound like a good deal?
any other ideas... also what kind of 4/10's should i get.. i drive this truck daily... and want awesome accleration but with good top end.. do you think 4.10's are the way to go... or are 3.73's better for what i want.
I have paid 1500.00 installed before. Check with Nelson Performance of TRT they might be cheaper. If you are close to them.
do it yourself.... all you need is patience and a good memory
yeah but dont you have to measure backlash or something like that?
There is a few more things in addition to the backlash...pinion depth, pinion bearing preload, and carrier bearing preload. Shims are used for correct spacing, but each rear end is slightly different, so you have to use a micrometer or dial indicator to get specific depths. It's a pretty intense install unless you know exactly what to do...
ya see i dont have those kinds of tools to measure that so i guess im gonna have to have it installed. anybody got any hook-ups that could get an auburn lsd?
Where are you located?
Go with the Auburn Pro with Richmond gears.. I have 373' but will be switching to 410's the 373 dont pull hard enough in high gear. When i shift out of second it kinda falls down
ya thats what i heard... but if i put 4.10s in its not like im gonna run outta gear by like 130 is it?
I personally don't have the tools, but I know someone (Sprayed99) near Plano that can help--he's always up for something to do when it comes to rear ends....hehehe... PM Sprayed99 and see if he wants to do a little Auburn LSD install...and tell him I said he was gay.
will do man... now i just have to get the lsd and gears... lol
ive had both 410s and 373s the 373 perform great all around as far as im concerned .410s you will be revving pretty hi top end .not as comfortable in my opinion ,highway is nice with 373.ive got the eaton lsd with 373s back in it and love it 90 mph all day long.also depends on tire heighth too .future mods etc.ive also got a few more goodies that make a diff, lol
hope this helps you deciding what ya want.good luck .feel free too pm if ya want .ive done everything 2 3 times plenty of expierience .lol, and you probly dont want too farm the job out its not easy too novices.youre price you have on material and labor is good as far as im concerned .
My 4.10s have saved me a few tickets. I don't drive as fast any more because the engine rpms are pretty high at 80 mph sustained. I bump along right around 70-75 mph and I know 1/2 of the cops I passed at those speeds wish I were going faster so they could pull me over and write me a BIG ticket! :D The shoe polished track number probably doesn't help.
i no i cant run 130 on the track.. but i was just wonderin if 4.10s would like limit my speed to like 80 or something... im not saying that with those gears i expect to be running insane track times.. lol... anyways ya i think im getting the lsd tommorow.. and then im gonna get the gears a few days later.... is this the lsd i should get? http://www.4wheelparts.com/PPT5457T5589.aspx
what one should i if those are the right ones? and also will my towhaul button work with an aftermarket diff?... i dont car if it does or not id just like to know..... thanks guys..
nevermind... i was just thinking outloud... i was wondering if i would runout of gear too fast.....
is this the lsd i should get? Limited Slip Differential
what one should i if those are the right ones? and also will my towhaul button work with an aftermarket diff?... i dont car if it does or not id just like to know..... thanks guys..
i also had some guy tell me at school that if i change my gear ratios.... my computer will have to be reprogrammed.. is that true?
what brand 4.10's are you running red?
Try this one. You have the 30 spline axles... Save some money on Ebay...
Yes, tow/haul will work.
Yes, your PCM will have to be flashed to recognize the new gear set.
hmmm... whats the diff between that one and the proseries auburn thats lsd... thats just a posi.
but ya anyways ive decided to go with this.......

Auburn Gear GM 8.5" & 8.6" Pro Series, 2.73 & up, '99-present
are those gears good?
Its essentially the same thing...but the one on Ebay can be rebuilt unlike the one you are looking at... Do you want a limited slip or a posi? An LSD spins the right rear only until slippage is detected--and then transfers power at a 3 to 1 ratio--3 spins for the right to 1 spin for the left. A Posi is left and right all of the time=positive traction 100% of the time.
Yes--Richmond makes a very good gear set.
well i just bought my lsd from 4 wheelparts for 493 after tax and all now i just have to recoupe... lol... hopefully ill have the gears by next week..... does anyone have anything that can adjust my computer for the switched gear ratio?
You caught that too?
Damn, sometimes you get me rolling on the floor though you may not be aware of it Tyler!:D
I'm fallin asleep. lol I reread it about five times before I said WTF. LOL
lol.. so what the hell is he trying to say?
I'm not sure what he was trying to say. What most people call a "posi" is actually a limited slip differential with some type of clutch pack or locking mechanism that tie the two axles together temporarily. There is a "spool" which will lock both axles together permanently but they are hell on tire wear with street driven/daily driven vehicles(excellant/a must for full-on drag race vehicles). The LSD diff will allow one tire to spin faster than the other during cornering. Clutch type diffs will wear out eventually, how many miles will it take depends on how many turns you make and if you keep the correct lube in the diff. My Auburn in my 92 truck had over 150k on it and was still working perfectly when it was stolen.
did i get the same lsd as you red? lol
I don't have the pro diff. Mine is just their regular diff. I see that I can install a pro diff from a newer truck into mine with different bearing. I would have gone that way if I would have caught that in the catalog. :whack:
lol i hope im happy with my choice...
Believe me, you'll love it! You'll be kicking yourself for not doing it earlier.
I have never heard anyone complain about a diff other than the ones that replace the spider gears in the factory carrier.
believe him lol ^^^^^^^ i got one the pro series and i love it !!!!
bad ass... so were did you get your gears red? did you order them through 4wp? and also who should i have flash my ecu?
Yeah, gears came from 4Wheelparts. They have a 20% off sale going on right now. 20% off one item. Tell them you got the email and would like your discount. $500 diff would cost you $400. Excellant deal!
Ok, I thought that an LSD turned the right rear---or left depending on which side is the driving wheel---at a ratio higher than the other. Like I posted before, I was aware that it was like a 2.7:1 ratio of one spinning faster than the other... And I guess that I have been retarded for years...I thought a posi was posi all of the time? But the spool is what locks them until the clutch pack (in an Auburn or Eaton) or gear set (Detroit) releases them? I've had two trucks with posi rears and they always squealed the inside rear tire when I turned...I just thought it was constantly locked... Oh well, we all learn something new each day...
