LS-1 Swap Into K5 Blazer....Need Suggestion with Temp Sensor

Everything has lined up great but a few little snares have set me back a little bit.

For one, the temperature sender that I pulled out of the motor that was in the Truck is a large threaded sensor from GP Sorensen, Part #TSU64. The threads on this thing are a whopping 11/16" or 17mm wide!! It has a one blade male plug for the wire to clip onto. But I haven't been able to find a reducer or adaptor to use this sensor again. My factory engine harness only has a one-wire connection for the temperature sensor on it. The local parts stores have tried to sell me the femal plug in type temp sensor but I have told them my harness has one wire, not two as these female sensors require.

I am going to install this sensor in the M12x1.5 plug in the Passenger side head at the rear.

Does anybody know if there is a smaller one pin sensor that would accurately read correct at my gauge, preferably a 1/8x27" NPT sensor.

youd have to drill and tap say the water pump to use the 1/8" style
sender. no there isnt a "done fix" for this. in 1998, the f-body had a
three wire setup, two for PCM, one for dash... again the large
15mm x 1.5 size. im not sure you have that kinda room on the later
heads to drill and tap..
i opted for the 2003 cluster to match the op, ct from the PCM serial data.

I am thinking about trying to use a similiar female plug temperature sensor and then trying to adapt the wires. My Truck only had a one wire sensor from the factory. I just wonder if I could find a smaller thread temp sensor that would also read right on my dash cluster.

Nobody sells a fitting to adapt a sensor that big down to a M12x1.5.

Does anybody know if using a diferent model temp sensor would affect the reading at the cluster much?

As long as it has the same internal resistance as what you took out, you should be able to replace it with a different one.

That fitting in your old engine is an NPT (national pipe thread) and is tapered in shape. It&#39;s a 3/8NPT, I believe. I&#39;ll have to look at my taps when I get home to be for sure on what size it is.

Yes that is correct, but the threaded part is 5/8". The stock sensor that works with my dash cluster 73-86 (87 sensor is two wires, First year for TBI in Trucks), measures 138-156 @ 220*.


I am about to scream. I have seen several Trucks with LS-1 engines in them who have run their stock cluster or that I thought did anyways&#33;

Just drill and tap a hole in the waterpump to install the original style sensor. Thats what I done on mine.
