Cheap way to shave the antenna on a NBS truck!

Whataburger from TexasTruckScene.com clued me in to this cheap and easy mod and I thought I should share :hshake:

The antenna on the NBS trucks goes through the wiper cowl corner, not the fender like the OBS trucks. Escalades have the antenna in their back glass I think, so their cowl corner doesn't have the hole in it.

Parts needed:
Escalade cowl corner - GM part number 15287179 (got mine for about $10 shipped from partszoneonline.com)
1 zip tie
1 bolt/nut (not sure of the size, mine was 3/8" bolt head and about 1/4" in diameter at the threads)

Remove the antenna and then pop off the cowl corner. It has 3 clips that hold it in place. Then you unbolt the base of the antenna (3 screws) and lay it down, running it parallel with the fender. Now attach the antenna base to the "L" bracket. I used an old bolt that I had in my tool box to attach the antenna to the "L" bracket. Now attach the "L" bracket to the antenna mount using one of the original antenna screws. Reattach the antenna to the antenna base. Now secure the antenna to the fender using the zip tie towards the end of the antenna. There is an opening in the fender well that you can thread the zip tie through. Install the escalade cowl corner and you're done.

I noticed a little reception loss, but not enough to be concerned with. Enjoy :rock:

cool looks good..do you think a hidden antenna would help it any? i have one in my truck..it works alright but i just mounted it behind the stereo on a a/c duct inside my dash..took me about 5 minutes..just my :twocents:

they just look weird without an antenna to me. im sure im in the minority on this one but i think a short billet antenna looks better.

nice! i liked the idea of the hidden antenna from stylinconcepts, but u lose AM radio functions. i know i rarely listen to AM radio but still sometimes the only way to listen to the football or baseball or hockey or basketball games is that way. maybe ill get me one of those satelite tv systems and mount it on my roof... :laugh:

i did this a while ago. i didnt loose any reception. and i think it looks better. IMO

The hidden antenna thing might help, but I couldn&#39;t justify the cost of it (&#036;50) vs. the cost of the stocker (&#036;0) :smile:

This is a cheap and easy upgrade. I&#39;m so glad to have found this on here. My cowl piece is on order, and the rest has been taken care of already. I always wanted to rid of that antenna, as I have XM. Now I can have my cake and eat it too. Thank you to the guy who came up with this ingenious idea.

Just did this on mine minus the bracket. There&#39;s really no need for a bracket. I just used two zip ties to attach it to the fender and two to attach the triangular base to the original mounting location. I&#39;ll have to look for an Escalade replacement piece, but you&#39;d have to be right up on the truck to notice the small hole for the stock antennae location, so no biggie.

Oh, and all I listen to is CD&#39;s or XM anyway, so no big concern about if I lost any stations.

i am gonna try and find a stock antenna and ill try it this week.....

Whattaya mean - do you not have an antenna? It&#39;s a piece o&#39; cale man. I did mine in under 10 minutes.

yeah i have an antenna but its a small billet one... gets bad enough reception as it is, so i am gonna find a tall stock one

Thanks for the info. I have been getting tired of having to pull of and then put back on the antenna when i put the cover on my truck.

Good deal&#33; :hshake: Did you ever take any pics of your setup? I am curious about where you mounted the zip ties to keep the antenna from moving around.

I think bolting the antenna back to the base with the "L" bracket might help keep some of your reception because it grounds the antenna. No big deal if you&#39;re not worried about losing reception. I have XM and a 6 disc cd changer, but there is a morning show on FM that listen too on the way to work so I didn&#39;t want to lose any reception. :cool:

I didn&#39;t take any pics, but I can. There are a couple of slots in the fender and I uses a zip tie in each spot. Then I zip tied through the base of the antenna to the mounting plate to keep it from sliding back and forth. The grounding didn&#39;t occur to me but it worked fine when I tested it. I literally never listen to FM though.

Yeah it worked out pretty good.

And yeah, lots of DeWalt stuff.

And internet-linked cameras covering every square foot of my house including the garage.

And a home alarm with motion sensors in every room.

And a South African Boerboel that could easily fit a thigh in his mouth.

So don&#39;t anyone get any ideas.

(We got broke into a couple of years ago - I don&#39;t plan on it happening twice...)

U gotta love the internet. I have 32 cameras that I watch via the internet. If the alarm goes off the wife watchs the video and tells me where the culprits are and usually I beat the police there. :devil:
Knock on wood false alarms for nearly a year now. Not one officer has commented on the strong smell of burning brake pads.

I love the antenna idea.

You get the corner piece? Even without it it doesn&#39;t look bad. You&#39;d have to be right up on the truck to even notice it.

Not yet. It will be here at the shop in the morning through the local dealership. &#036;9.40 was my cost on that part.

ebay...about &#036;25 shiped but i like the idea of just using the stock antenna and mounting it where they did.. :thumb:

Nice idea! Got me to thinking about doing this.... I rarely listen to the FM stations around here.. .mostly CDs.... Thanks!!

You can still get all your FM stations. I had no reception issues at all.

That's a pretty slick mod! I'm just learning all kinds of new stuff here!!

thanks for sharing the idea. i did it last night. took me a little longer though. realized i was out of zip ties after i took everything apart and had to run down to my shop. great info 6.

this is a great idea. I have been wanting to shave the antenna on mine as well. I will go out and do this mod later today. I have sirius and hardly ever listen to reg radio so no big deal if i loose reception.

I've always wanted to see how that look completed. Awesome.

I've been searching for one of these parts to do this mod myself to my truck. It's become very hard to find, does anyone have any extra's they'd be willing to sell?
