Here in town I have access to a 2001 5.3 L complete! 53k Miles! Looks very nice...Just a little dust on it...

The only thing it doesnt include is the oil pan, the harness and the comp.

You can get the harness and comp from the junkyard guy for 50$ each

Oil pan is about $50 bucks each too I believe

Let me know if interested...Its located in Bryan/College Station TX..We can meet up if you would like to pick it up and I can reserve it for you!

I almost bought it just to sell it for more but I figured that wouldnt be so nice haha

NOTHING! Heads are the same I believe 4.8 has 862 and 5.3 has 706 or something like that....you current oil pan will transfer over...It will be a very easy swap..You dont need any accesories......You can use you current PCM and harness...just might wanted to get it tuned for a 5.3 before it goes in or somethin..or get the 01 PCM from the guy and get someone to tune it then put it in in the swap

If interested let me know and I will get them to hold it for you!

you can sell everything you currently have for the same price easily ...so basically you would get it for free in the long run lol

yeah, a harness is very hard to find, trust me i looked for one forever and still never found one. word of advice is make sure u can find the harness before u buy the engine. :hshake:

Nope because your 4.8 is the exact same one. Horsepower is not too much different from the 4.8 and 5.3 Its greater, but not like my 4.3 to 5.3 is.

my dad has a ex cab 5.3 vs my single cab 4.8 and he kills me in a race lol....thats y im a firm believe that there is a big difference.....

the difference between the fastest N/A scsb 5.3 in comparison to the fastest N/A 4.8 scsb is a little over 7/10 difference.

your harness, computer everything will roll right over to the 5.3 even the mounts if not mistaken... flash your pcm to the 5.3 with a tune and be good to go ..throw some headers and a cam in that 5.3 and your dad would be looking at your tail gate alot.. lol ;)

You don't have to flash to 5.3, just scale the engine size in the tune to 5.3L and tune it. If you have a Nelson tune he will take care of that for you. :thumb:

yeah u should be able to use ur harness from ur 4.8. the swap is easy to do and ull see nice gains. i didnt know u were scrapping the 4.8 and keeping the harness thats why i said make sure bout the harness. :hshake:

Yea man it will be a direct swap..if would be easy if you could find a PCM from the same guy he sells em for 50$...he might even have the one that came with the truck you could use it because it would already have toe 5.3 settings...or just get allen to send you one and send yours back during the swap...

You could easily sell you 4.8 for what your getting for the 5.3

Dude you need to read up some more.

If you're wanting more power out a 4.8 just swap a cam in. The only difference "ONLY" in a 4.8 to a 5.3 is the crank and the connecting rods, and that's it. Getting a tune for 93 opens up more power also.

You can get a crank from a 5.3, 6.0 or a 5.7. They're all the same, same stroke, same bolts, same every thing.

If you're going to do an engine swap, don't bother with a 5.3, just do a 6.0.

Not much difference b/t the 4.8 & 5.3. Same bore, different stroke, 10hp more and about 25lbft torque (w/ 5.3). You'll notice a slightly faster pick-up from a dig with the 5.3, but is it really worth the swap hassle... that's for you to decide. 10hp/20lbft torque for $500 & 20hrs of labor. Worth your time or what?

Tuning for a 5.3 (stock-ish) is as easy as scaling the correct cyl volume, designating engine size, and airflow values for a smoother idle & driveability. Been there done that... ask me about a Yukon that blew a stock 5.3, and went to an auction with a perfectly running 4.8. http://domesticdisturbancela.com/php...s/icon_eek.gif :lol:

No doubt there. I went from a 4.3L to a 5.3L in my '86. If a 6.0L is available, I'd go all the way. But, I won't knock adding two cylinders. As for a 4.8 to 5.3, I'd probably push that idea out as the price versus results isn't really practical. May wanna sell that to someone on an S10 board. If I had an S10, it'd definitely get a 5.3 or 6.0 upgrade.

i want a 5.3 over my 4.8 cuz i dont think its a smart idea to put a cam and headers and tune on a engine that has 140,000 miles...so thats y i want a 5.3...i would love to have a 6.0 or ls1 but its my daily driver and i want it to swap fast and relable....

20hrs?!?!?! Granted, I've never swapped a LSX engine but I've never had an engine swap take that long. Do these really take that long to change?

I'm counting the time I walked outside, and popped the hood until I closed it with a running vehicle. I guess I should've mentioned that I only had a second set of hands become available for a couple of hours. The vast majority of this was me working by myself in my driveway. Had I had help the entire time, this could've been done (start to finish) in a day. I took my time to label and bag bolts and stuff b/c my memory isn't what it used to be. :laugh: Besides... I don't feel so bad about the time extent. At a dealer's rate of AT LEAST $85 /hr for 20 hours of work, it would have cost at least $1700 in labor. I was actually quoted $6740 for a new long block, labor, and misc shop supplies. My replacement long block cost me $150 and a case of beer that I ran through while doing this swap-out. :rock:

It's not hard to do an LSx swap, it's just tedious when you have all the electrical knick-knacks to pull out of the way. On an SBC setup, there's not as much to deal with. Heck, I had my old 4.3L out of my pickup in a matter of a couple of hours (after work on a Friday). It took about an hour just to get the vac lines, minimal wiring and front drive accessories out of the way, unbolt the trans & TC, then yanked it out. With the LSx motor, I pulled as much as I could off the block before I yanked it out b/c I didn't want to damage the harness or anything else. Better safe than sorry.

Anyhoos.... BACK ON TOPIC HERE! Saw an S10 for sale in my subdivision on the way home. If I didn't have my truck, I'd seriously consider a 5.3L-powered S10. Could be the next S10-K. LOL bump for a good price.
