Hey Guys,
Im new to the forum and I want some advice on where to start with my truck... I'm 17 I have a 1999 GMC sierra 4.8 and everything on it is bone stock when it comes too the engine... I have a decent paying summer job coming up and I want to start doing some mods to my truck soon... I plan on keeping this truck for a while, it has 76k...What should I do first?

If your located close to San Antonio then you could set up an appointment to go get it done. If you dont feel like driving there, you could fill out the online tune form and send it in. One of the members on here with a reg cab 4.8 just like yours dropped a full second JUST from nelsons tune. He was completely stock and the tune dropped him a full second in the 1/4. Have you thought about clearing out the yellow in your headlights? There is an easy/free mod you can do to your headlights to get the yellow out. It will look sick with the white if you cleared out your lenses.
Ya that would look better how do i do it? About the tune my friend was telling me about that he said i pop something off and mail it in right?

As far as tuning goes, you fill out the form online, submit it/pay for the tune, and he will ship you a new PCM. Then you ship him your PCM for the core charge. The PCM is located under the hood and yes you just pop it out and pop the new one back in and PRESTO CHANGE-O your truck is turning into an ass kicking machine.
Start out with a posi rear end with the gears you want, I like 4.10s on a street truck with 17" and smaller rims. Next get a torque convertor in the 2800-3000 rpm stall range, hopefully smaller in diameter. While swapping the convertor, get a shift kit and billet 1-2 and 3-4 servo installed. When it comes to servos, the least you should do is the Corvette servos, they're cheap.
I have big ol 22"s does that mean I should get something like lower like 4.56s?
at the end of the summer i will have about 2500 bucks fyi....idk how much all this costs but i would like to knock out gears and some kinda of engine mod that will make a dramatic difference...with this money.....
With 22s I'd definitely put 4.56s in there to get you out of the hole. You'll run a little high RPM on the interstate. It's a compromise for acceleration. Bigger gears or smaller wheels or lackluster performance. It's a tough decision.

You have plenty to work with. Contact TRT and see what he can do for you for the money. He'll work you a good deal. He's not in business to make his million by next week. :thumb:

From what I heard If you are going to get a Nelson tune It would be better to make an appointment to have it tuned on the dyno.
