I like my truck and all, but if I could start completely over knowing what I know now, I sure would do things differently.

When I started on my truck, I needed the extended cab aspect for work and have always had 4wd being from NY, so at the time, it was a good fit. But with my current situation (no longer needing my truck for work purposes), I sure wish I could start over.

Number one, I like the front end of my truck (whatever body style that is) so I would buy the same body style but in 2wd and regular cab. Something cheap with a 4.3 in it. Next I'd have one of the reputable builders build an absolutely bullet-proof tranny that could take anything I could throw at it. Then I'd have TRT build a killer 6.0l or maybe something even bigger. Then of course have Allen install a front-mount turbo. I also would love to do the same setup in an older body style Chevy...maybe a mid-60's. Like I said, right now it's a dream, but it's sure kickin' around in the back of my head....

How about you guys? if given the chance to do it over, what would you do?

I think I'd keep what you have and get one of Allen's Trick performance front mount turbo kits. You could also get an FLT 2wd transmission then sell the 4wd stuff, remove the front diff and sell it. You'd have a 2wd xcab with just a little more weight but more comfort than a std cab.

I've done the older body style now I'm on to the newer regular cab 2wd. Some things I'm doing the same and some I will do different. I did the rear mount turbo last time so this one will have the front mount. Do it! Life is too short! The economy needs you. Your fellow Americans need you, the next generation needs you! Sounds kind of like what Virgil did. I think he pulled most of his 4wd stuff out.

I would have gone with a 99 with power windows, probably black, with a 4.8L. I like the body style(since the 03's werent out yet) and would rather swap a 6.0 into something with a v8 already. other than that nothing else matters cuz itll all change eventually anyways. i like my choice of a rcsb, its just there is lil stuff that wears on u like trying to find wiring harnesses that work with ur stuff. :cry:

i didnt plan on getting this deep into performance when i got my truck. i dont regret too much. i wish it was a single cab, and i wish i woulda gotten a FLT instead of another stocker but money was tight. its not too late for me to go with a livernois turbo but ill most likely go the cam/nitrous route.

I dont have to many regrets with my truck. Sometimes i wish i would of shopped around a little more and got a VHO (got my truck in early 06 so VHOs were out). But I am happy where I am with my truck. Im just dreaming of 12's but I will get there somehow.

I would have gone with a 99-02 GMC RCSB because I like the front end better. I would have done a motor swap with the 6.0 Vortec Max from the 06 model (and 07 Classic.) From there--port and polished Z06 heads, a wild Z06 hot cam, Z06 intake w/90mm TB, intercooled 10 psi Magnacharger, meth, fully functional thru-hood Ram-air, pulleys, LT's w/ 3" Y-pipe, no cats, cut outs, fully built 80e, built Auburn 4:10s with posi, 2/4 drop, late 60's Chevy R/S wheels with oversized BFG g-Force T/A drag radials, and a Nelson 93 HOT tune... :rock:

Oh, and a "It'll beat a Hemi" sticker... :smile:

But even then I would stop and reconsider things... :bash:

What would I change on my engine? Maybe go with a 720HP/572 big block crate engine. I think I've invested enough in these over the years to have bought one of those. One of the guys I work with has a 34 Ford altered and he razzes me all the time because I still dink around with small blocks and nitrous when I could have all the power I want with the crate 572. :whack: Can I go back to the day my 92 got stolen and pop a cap? :bash: I should have kept the 81 SWB and built it up. It was one sweet truck other than the hole in the carb that kept the engine fat and happy and my wallet lonely for some greenbacks and that was back when gas was only a dollar a gallon. :cry:

:imwstupid: I'm very happy with my truck, buying the SS has been one of the best personal decisions I've made. The only major thing that I would have done different is the transmission; I've got $5K in my 4L60 now :cry: and if I knew it would cost that much back then I would have just saved-up and swapped to a built T56. But that's all in the past at this point, or at least until I blow the tranny again! #2 mistake was installing the McGaughy's drop kit, my next major mod will be swapping it out for the DJM Calmax setup & QA1 shocks.

only one tiny complaint and that is, i went with a 5.3 instead of a 6.0 from a 4.3 swap..but honestly i like the way my truck runs as of now cant waite until its completed, hopefully in a month, i added a victor jr. intake to the order which will be purchased end of week.. with new throttle body which will be ported..

p.s. its a never ending story lmfao!!!!! reading the book to my wife and shes asking when its gonna end ... hahahahaha yeah right!!! NEVER

I'm very much with you on that. I'm always sittin on the crapper lookin at my Scoggin Dickey (that just doesn't sound right does it?) catalog and wondering which of those big blocks I'd go with. They're pricey but holy crap - what fun. :burnout: :burnout: :burnout: :burnout:

in 1996 when i bought my gmc ext cab z71 truck new i planned on heads /cam, headers, chip, 6" lift, mud tires and a few other things. well life got in the way of it all so its pretty much stayed stock. im glad of it also, because now im getting a 6.0 with heads/cam front mount turbo, 4l80e, 14 bolt sf rear end, 6 inch lift and a few other parts anyways. so it will be better now then it ever was. once im done with it i have promised my g/f a new refrigerator, we only have a dorm room size one lol.

Better run down to the Home Improvement store and buy the fridge first, you're going to need the "ace-in-the-hole" before the project starts. What's a new fridge run, maybe a grand for a really nice one? It's a good investment. Hell, I need a bigger fridge just for my beer than a dormer. :laugh:

the fridge i want is like 2k, its the samsung with 4 doors on it. we been living with a dorm style fridge for about 2 years now so we are used to it. funny what you can get used to. our freezer is the size of a shoe box lol

I love my truck I made the dealer order it for me. I purchased it to be a built to the hilt sleeeper, shortly after I purchased it the wife and I decided to open our own business. So if I knew then what kind of stuff I would be doing with my truck for my business, I would have purchased a 3/4 ton 4x4 ccsb w/Duramax & Allison. This truck has done a fanominal job for being treated like a 3/4 ton I'm still very happy with it.

I'm pretty happy with the way this one has turned out, but seeing as my 65 has now morphed into my daily driver/tow vehicle for my other projects, I probably should have waited for a deal on a 6.0..... and a 4L80E..... No dissapointments with my present combo..... but not a week goes by that I don't read where another 4L60E has bit the dust......

for me... I would have gotten same body style, with the 5.3 already in it and fully loaded. All power etc. Possibly in white because then I could get some black rims.

If not a truck then definately a 2002 WS6.

But I'm still living out my dreams anyway with this truck, or at least my plans for the truck so it's all good.

i wish i wouldnt have done any body work until i had the money to paint it... i didnt really have any money to buy a car so i dont have a choice on cars.. parents gave me my truck and i dont really have any money now so... just paint..mabey i wouldnt have shaved the doors either.. :eek:
