You were surprised by a Tarantula? How long have you lived in OK?
....wasn't he already home?
Ive never seen one, and it freaked me out because i really didnt know if it was deadly or what.
I believe he came out of a dead tree i took down today so his home may have gotten destroyed. Either way the people here kill them if they see them and he was heading in the direction to my neighbors yard. I really don't want to ever see him again while im in the woods, mowing, sitting on a rock somewhere enjoying the fresh air or whatever. I was on my land all day today working, we saw a white owl, a deer, a turtle, some huge vultures very close, a bearded dragon lizard, but of everything he was the most excitement of the day without a doubt. Even though much of the excitement was fear and being totally creeped out, I couldn't see killing such a creature that brought so much to my day.
After researching a bit I've found out it is a Oklahoma brown tarantula, makes a very good pet, very docile and not poisonous. it can bite but would be about like a wasp sting. So while letting it go may have been the best option for him, i do know he will have a good well fed life as a pet.
Gotchya...I was kidding anyway lol. You oughta keep it, be a cool little pet.
dime a dozen around here. :)
That thing would have been so dead so fast...
Good God man, there are freakin tarantula's in OK? I'll never go back. J/k of course, never knew they were native to that part of the world tho
