6.5 to carb 350 swap
Hi just wondering what swapping a junk 6.5 out of a 94 1 ton for a carb 350 would encompass. Have the 350 in a 85 blazer now, can get the 94 cheap enough but do not want to spend a whole lot on this project. Will the trans and torque converter work on the 350? Do I need to redo the brakes? Any info appreicated.

r u talking about 6.5 deisel to 350? go with a junk yard ls engine swap. What kind of trans is in the truck turbo 400?
-
trying to remember, I believe the 6.5L diesel engine had a unique bellhousing and the transmission behind it will not fit any gasoline V8.

Long live the 6.5TD! Are you positive you want to go the gasser route?

:ugh2:thanks for the replys i do know that it is a 4 speed auto, not sure what specific trans it has. Red Heartbeat i think is right that the belhousing will not bolt up but i have heard that big block V8's will bolt up. I would love to keep the diesel in it if it was not completely junk, but i havent even opened the hood on it yet. I'll keep posting as the project goes on..................:ugh2:

Big block Chevy has the same bellhousing as the smallblock. Buick/Olds/Pontiac has a different bellhousing and I doubt that its the same as the diesel. The diesel is housing is proprietary to the engine manufacturer.

yeah i'm thinking about putting the trans and t-case out of the blazer into the truck if it will work with the linkage and driveshafts, th350 and a 208 transfer case if it wont please tell me i'm wrong.............
-
6.5 should have 4L80, it's the original application the trans was invented for. 4L80 bolts up to traditional small blocks and LS engines.
What's the original question?
Going to 350 means get the motor mounts and bolt it in. Yes, there are electrical concerns if you keep the 80.

I'm with Sizzle! Long live the 6.5TD!!!
IMHO, a SBC in a 1 ton truck would be an under powered gas suckin' pig. A big block would do twice the work and get the same lousy 9-10 MPG.
A carbed 350 wouldn't play well with the electronic shift
4L80e that the '94 has in it, either.
SBC, BBC, and all 6.2/6.5 engines share the same bell
pattern, BTW. 350 Olds diesels are BOP pattern.
Your TH350/208 won't swap......it's a pass side drop,
the '88-up trucks with IFS are driver's side drop.
Also, there's no VSS output on your '85 case to run the
'94 speedo.
Alot of time and $$$ to backwards engineer a swap.
In fact, by the time you convert the entire truck, (including the fuel pump, fuel sender, wiring, dash cluster, exhaust, etc.) you would have tons more cash and labor in it than if you just scrounged up a good used 6.5, or for that matter, a good 6.2 and just dropped it in.
No re-wiring, no exhaust mods, no hydroboost changing,
no TC swapping, longer engine life, and WAY better fuel mileage.
Most 6.5TD's with 4:10's can get 17-18 MPG if ya drive sensibly.
The worst part of a '94-up 6.5TD is the lousy DB4 "drive by wire" injection pump. If it works, drive it.
If not, you can swap it out for a '92-'93 mechanical IP and go with a stand alone 4L80e TCM from the same '93-'94 truck.
Long live the 6.5TD!! LOL!

If I needed something large and heavy to use for scrap and someone had a 6.2 or 6.5 they would give me including delivery I might not take it FWIW.
