New Cam!!!
So i finally took the plunge, and ordered a new cam today. I ordered the thunder racing 220/220-112 cam, with crane dual valvsprings. I also ordered some pacesetter headers, long tubes 1" 3/4 ceramic coated with the 3" y pipe. That ought to flow pretty good. When i take my heads off, i'm going to be having a guy at a shop switch out the springs, and he says he used to do some port and polishing, but has gotten out of it lately, but will do it on the side. So i think i'm going to have my heads port and polished too. What kind of rear wheel horse power gains do u guys think i'll put out? i'm thinking maybe 75-50, or is that a little over zealous.
P.S. i'm going to have to get a nelson tune too, sooo Allen, expect my call, but not till next week, because i still have to make a car payment, and its nice to have some money still in the bank :D

you'll lose some low end r u think about some 4:10's in the near future?....also unless you are removing the heads for porting you can save a lot of labor and change the spings out with the head still on...i think 75 is very do-able
edit: one more thing, is he going to hand port them or does he have a CNC?....unless this guy is very fimilure with porting LSx heads he could do more harm then good...just a thought

Ya, i am removing the heads for port and polishing, and thats all this guy used to do, is port and polishing, but now he got into a bigger operation of doing all sorts of maching, so i'm sure he's familiar with these LSx heads. As far as 4.10's go, i don't think i'm going to go with those, just because i still want to do freeway. i think i'm going to keep the 3.73's that are in it, and install a eaton locker though. I was also wondering if anyone on here, knows about putting the C6 i think? transmission onto this engine? Has anyone done it, what types of problems are to be anticipated, what types of mods or accesories are needed to do it? Just idea i've been thinking about

I run 4.10s on the highway with an 4L60E and have no problems. Tire size is 295/55/18. The C5/C6 transmission is actually a transaxle and the transmission is at the rear of the Corvette, not compatible with the trucks without tons of fabrication. C6 is also a Ford transmission and not easily bolted to a GM product.

Ya, i deffinately don't want a ford transmission, that would be foolsish :bash: Is there any Manual transmissions out there that you would reccomend, for an application in my truck? i've heard that the manual tranny's that come in these trucks pretty much suck, so i would like to either get a new one, or maybe even have it rebuilt?

Thanks for the help. With that Tranny, i could go with the 4.10's, and get killer gas mileage still on the freeway, but i can tell i'm going to have to do some more homework on this. :D
-
with that trans you could probably do 4.56s with no issues
-
You can definately go with 4.56 if you convert to a t56 in my opinion.
I have one behind a 5.3 with a 222/224 112 lsa comp cam in an obs.
With 295/45 R18s out back I can run around 70mph at 2000rpm.
With my cam, and yours also, your engine will like it up around 2k.
I still don't have my speedo calibrated right, but those #s are close.

You will probably see 65 hp out of it. The LTs and y pipe are a good idea since your cam needs the flow... When he does the heads, make sure he balances the valvetrain and does a 3 angle valve job...much better flow to utilize the cam... You will loose some bottom end, and the little 4.8 needs all the bottom end it can get! You will need a new TC to utilize all new newfound power up top...something between a 3000-3600 stall. And when you said C6, I am guessing you meant the 6 gen Vette... Red is right, the tranny is actually a transaxle and the tranny is under the rear hatch where the rearend is located... A T-56 from an F-body is a popular swap for a manual in your truck. There have been a few on this site who have made the swap already. Use the Search tool and see what you can uncover. If you go with the T-56, 4.10's will suit you just fine and having the 6th gear for overdrive on the highway will help out your HWY MPG...
