Have you ever heard of this before?

Alright so, its been about 2yrs since my last post but here goes nothin.

I drove up to the ol' Advance Auto Parts the other day to pick up some Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner. Usually drop it in every 5,000 or so, seems to keep things running smoothly. But while I was there a thought occured to me.
"I've never changed my brakes on this truck, NEVER!"
Now what makes this thought so deserving of that exclamation point you might ask?
My truck has 103,152 miles on it...that's why.
On top of never changing them, I've never even had them looked at. soooo I asked one of the guys in advance to check em out for me. Cuz honestly, I just didn't know what to look for other than a squealing sound.
So he proceeds to round my truck, checking all the rotors and inspecting the pads as best he can with the wheels in the way. He looks at me and says..."How old did you say this truck was?" I said its a 2000.
He replies: "Hmm. And how many miles on it?" Again I tell him 103 xxx. After looking at me somewhat puzzled he tells me "I've never seen brake pads last this long before."

So here's my question. Has anyone ever gotten this kind of brake life out of their trucks before, besides me?

I've never heard a single squeal, never had trouble stopping, and the rotors don't have a single groove on them. They feel brand new. As for the brake pads, they still got quite a bit of life left in them.
They are the original brakes that came on my truck when I bought in the summer of 2000 with 41 miles on the truck.

i would think that the majority of the miles are highway miles would be my guess.

That would be true for this past year and a half because of the job I switched to, but not for the years before it.

Know an engineer I workk with has a 2000 and pulls a backhoe.... 101K before the frist change :thumb:

I have like 85000 on mine and they are in pretty darn good shape as well.

With the newer trucks, G.M. put long life pads on them. I wrote service for GMC for 6 years ( up to '04) and never replaced a set of pads for normal wear. When you do, they are more expensive though. As far as pad life, G.M. did it right.

my 92 had 300k on the stock units when it got stolen. There was over half of the pads left. :thumb: My 93 had all the receipts and none for brakes. It's got over 210k and the brakes still look great.

I have seen 150K plus on pads and even more n shoes. I have also seen cars with 20k need new brakes. Mostly japs with organic pads witch are softer and easyer on the rotors, But its a wash. New pads ever 30k at $100+Then rotors a few brake jobs down the road. Or pads and rotors at 150K+ I'll take the later

Also it depends on how hard you are on the brakes. I have running bendix rotors and bendix ceramic pads. After 25000 i replaced the pads because they were not stopping that good. When i replaced the pads last friday i still had half the pad left.

My girlfriend&#39;s mom&#39;s 2001 Tahoe had 120,000k on it before she had the original pads replaced. :thumb: The rotors were ok, but she had them turned. I couldn&#39;t believe it. :eek: I had up to 40k on pads and rotors on my previous 96 and 97 Z71&#39;s. My 2000 has 60k on it and has the stock brakes still... I had some issues with the brakes on my OBS trucks, but GM did it right this time around--and I am sure they did the same with the 07 NBS.
