They put 4l80e's behind the 8.1 too. No tunnel modifying needed
where is a good place to buy the motor with everything i need i found a few on ebay.
waiting for a reply on if the motor will come with the wire harness... seems that most of the 6.0l come outta Escalade's.
the lq9 has something like 10:1 compression and the lq4 has 9.41:1 thats what i found earlier and a diff hp rating thats about the only diff rite?
i know the LQ9 has flat-top pistons resulting in the higher comp ratio, but i can't remember off-hand what all else, if anything, is different.
just don't get a 99-2000 6.0
they had iron heads & need a crank spacer to fit - i can't remember why all else they're the unwanted red-headed step kids, but everybody says to get at least an 01
Is anyone actually serious in doing this? I am very interested in how easily this could possibly be done. Externally, how simular is the 8.1 blocks to the LS style? (engine mounts, exhaust matching up, etc)
Hey Guys,
Im brand new here and i Just purchased a 06 Chevy Silverado Reg Cab 2wd 4.3 V-6
5 Spd.
Its slow. I no Like. I wanna Go Fast.
Heres my question/ Could be my plan:
6.0 Goat motor with its T-56 Tranny. Complete Swap.
I wanted to keep the Truck Manual.
Is the Goat 6.0 the same as Truck 6.0 ( i know its not the same, but is it close?)
What do you think?
I think It would be fast and awesome. I already know im going to pay a pretty penny for the 6.0/T-56 combo, so thats been taken into consideration.
Thanks A heap Guys!
the 05-06 GTOs had the LS2 which is similar but, at the same time, very different from the LQ4 or LQ9 used in the trucks. i don't have a bunch of time to explain, but if you do a search for these engines, you'll find a bunch of info around here.
good luck on the swap! it sounds fun
So it would be easier (and a lot cheaper) just to use a 6.0 lq4? In that case would I just keep my 5speed? I do know that chevy offered the 5speed behind 6.0 motors in 06 but I think it was in half cabs, so I assume it's a beefier 5speed. Could I just beef mine up?
you can use your 5speed behind any LS, although with much power and abuse it probably wont last long. The 5speed that came behind the 6.0s is the NV4500, about as much of a work truck tranny as it gets. If you want an all out performance manual you're gonna have to go with a Tremec whether it be a T56 or a TKO
yes, it'd be easier & cheaper to go with the LQ4 or even an LQ9. as for beefing up your trans, nobody that i've heard of makes any stronger build parts for the nv3500. the manual used with the 6.0s is the nv4500 which ain't what you want for a go-fast truck
or a TR-6060 ;)
unless you start making some big power & constantly dogging it, your trans will hold up. i've talked with a guy who has a built 6.0/nv3500 who drags it and still runs fine. heck... the S/C 4.8 in the gibbs trucks was making 390/425 running a stock transmission with a warranty. there's another guy running an 8.1 with his & that was after his 454 swap. he's got videos of him laying it down with the big blocks and it looks to be fine
Okay so it sounds like I could at least hang on to my stock 5spd for a bit. When it comes time for a t-56 will it bolt right up? I know I'll have to change crossmembers and get a new driveshaft, but as far as the tunnel goes, will it line up pretty close?
Until then is there a short-throw for my nv? How about a performance clutch?
As far as the best and easiest motor to bolt in, what would you guys recommend? 5.3 or 6.0. Remember my trucks an 06 if that matters
T56 bolts up, plugs in, just get the dshaft shortened. Hurst made a short throw for the NV but discontinued it, and centerforce has a clutch setup for ya
like sleeper said, t-56 bolts up
i believe the late 2000+ nv3500 crossmembers will work with the t-56 as well.
tunnel lines up, but you'll have to cut a new shifter hole & cover the old one as well as wanting to get a short-throw shifter & a custom handle to put the knob in an easy-to-use place.
ebay or a forum will be your best place to find a hurst STS for the nv3500 because, again like sleeper said, they discontinued it about a year & a half ago. i've been trying to find one for a while.
a lot of guys get the Z06 clutch for their swaps & i can't remember if the truck flywheel works with the trans or not... i'm leaning more on a 'no' with that one.
the 5.3 & 6.0 bolt in just the same... if you're wanting to build a power machine, the 6.0 is the better base to start with.
for the 6-speed swap, there's a real detailed writeup on performancetrucks.net about it... i believe it's a sticky
Cool beans.
Okay I'm going to start looking for a 6.0.
Depending on cash flow I may start looking for a t-56 as well, but I'll prob just lean towards keeping the nv right now and getting a new clutch.
Btw while were in the subject, I despise my rear gear ratio and the whole one wheel wonder thing.
What if anything do you recommend for a rear end swap?
OH and is there a certain year 6.0 I should look for?
Is there a certain year that makes it easier?
you'll need a new clutch & flywheel anyway - the 4.3 setup won't work
as for the rear end - if you plan on keepin the nv3500, get you some 3.73s or 4.10s (depending on tire size, whether you do more highway or city driving, & cam choice). if you're going t-56, you'll want something more around a 4.56 or 4.88.
a TrueTrac is one of your best bets to fix your one-wheel wonder.
if you're feelin adventurous, you may as well go ahead & get a 6 lug, 14 bolt rear - it'll hold up better.
if you end up going with the 14 bolt, you'll wanna do that & re-gear at the same time as your trans swap if you also go t-56
01+ they'll have aluminum heads
a bunch of this kind of info is all over the place here... just use the handy-dandy search button up top
Okay found a Hummer H2 6.0 on eBay with low miles for $2500.
is that good? Price wise and comparability wise? I assume it's an lq9.
did they give you lube first? and no its a lq4, the 9 was sss and escalade only
Okay so not a good price haha..
So the H2 has a 325 hp lq4?
yes
now that's just creepy...
i watched Zombieland last night & the girls supposedly toasted the Esky & they ended up replacing it with an H2... to show how dorky i am, the first thing i thought was "well, it sucks they lost the LQ9 for an LQ4"
Hey Guys Still going to do the swap,
Having a little trouble selling selling my Chevelle. As soon as its gone Ill get it done!!!
i know where you can get an LS3 with less than 100 miles on it... he'll most likely want top-dollar for it, though
LS3 huh?
Well the prob is not finding a motor, but having the funds!
Thought putting a ls2 or 3 was opening up a whole new can of worms?
Btw Zebra, you thought about making your a full time all-wheel Drive?
Sounds like that may be pretty awesome!!
i hear the lack-o-funds part... that's why my engine swap took 5 months!
as for the LS2/3, i do believe it's a more-involved swap, but it's doable.
AWD - i've thought about it... & then i stopped thinking. it'd be much more trouble than it's worth considering mine's the NP241 (the manual version without the wiring harness & the second hole in the floor), and it wouldn't be as good off-road. then you get into lowering, stiffer suspension, better wheels/tires, turbo, bigger brakes, bigger engine, etc...
...but an AWD 5 speed would be pretty freakin sick!!
yay... at least 2 lame-o's in the house! :)
Agreed!! Awd and a manual would be slightly adicting!!
Clutch is now going!!! Dammit!
I'm going to have to do something extravagant now to get this swap moving!!:
I have a pretty much new set of GM performance accesories rims
chrome 20x8.5 look like torq thrusts. With chevy caps. With gm's stupid expensive locking lug nut set. Figured they would look good on my W/T after the swap.
Now I'm going to put them on the classifieds in the next couple days:(
this sucks!!!!
at least it wasn't as extravagant as breaking a rod. that'll sure get your butt in gear!
Haha your right about that one!!! At least I can still drive a lil at this point!!
Does anyone have the part numbers for the motor mounts for the 5.3 ? The engine and the frame side?
Check my Swap threads I did. I think I might have posted them in there. It took me 3 different tries of ordering stuff to get the right ones
These are for an '06 2wd. Frame side.
Left - 15113848
Right - 15113847
Left side costs almost twice as much FYI
My next question is, My truck is a 05 with the 4.3. If i buy an 01-02 5.3 complete with harness. Will the harness be plug and play with my pcm (which is getting tuned for the swap) or will I need to have a hybrid harness or custom harness of some sort made?
