Here's the thing, I want to hear what the californians think. Of course the people who have lived there or don't live there don't like it. People suck no matter where you are. I think I will get along fine if we end up going. I'm sure I will be ridiculed some for being a Texan but I expect that. I appreciate every opinion expressed in this thread but the only positives I have heard have been from people who actually live there. I have heard nothing but negatives from my fellow texans for the most part. Of course if you are happy where you are you would not move, that is not the case for me. I feel out of place in Texas and I always have. I am so happy with my job that I am finding the best in Wichita falls but it may not be enough(Wichita falls sucks that bad). It may sound as if ihave made up my mind but I am far from that. The friends I have known that moved out there and loved it have a lot in common with me and the ones who have visited or lived there and came back don't have near as much in common with me. All I really have to think about now is whether or not the best job I've ever had is worth leaving to chase a dream. Thank you to those who have expressed your opinion on the subject, I really appreciate it.
IMO, what you should do is invest in a home over there so you wont have to change jobs, but if you need a week or 2 off from work you have a place to go. Kinda like a retirement home in waiting. I forgot all about ontario, thats a good place to live. Also redlands, riverside, and san bernardino should be looked at. trust me, if i were to buy a home i would look at these places too.
I haven't read all the posts in this yet but STAY AWAY FROM CALIFORNIA!!! I want out of here badddd. With opening a shop, you will have to deal with the EPA, BAR, terrible taxes and property laws, and extremely higher expenses: rent, power, phone etc. You have so many hoops to jump through just to conform with all the stupid laws to make everything "environmentally safe" and to keep all these minorities and liberals happy in their little bubble world. Not a good idea. But the weather is great! :twocents:
If your a family man stay away for your childrens sake
Probably not going to have kids so that one is out, lol. It's going to be another year before we decide so I'm researching. If we do this, we are doing it the smart way. I have a few friends out there in Oceanside, San bernardino, and sf area. They all love it. I knew a girl who lived in nor-cal and so-cal, she said she liked San diego better. I'm thinking we may try to get into a smaller town around northern L.A. or Bakersfield. Close enough to the beach to drive but far enough we won't pay out the arse. I really appreciate all of the input from everyone. I have a ton of researching to do and I've already been working on enunciation so I don't sound so Texan whether we move or not.
Yes you have sir and for that I thank you. We will have to see where the year takes me and the mrs. We really really hate Wichita falls though and Texas for that matter, except for some of the laws being a bit more leaniant than they are on the west coast. But to be honest, I really don't mind putting cats back on the truck and stripping the tint off. Even 35% is getting harder to see out of as I get older.
