4.3L - Cast EVERYTHING (virtually)
5.3L - Cast block, aluminum heads, plastic intake
5.7L - Aluminum block & heads, plastic intake.
My truck also seems to sit NEARLY the same height in front. I have spring clamps bolted to my rear leaf springs. They drop the back end slightly, and preload the springs too. Barely helps with traction. That's a poor man's traction helper right there!
Well I guess I can say the only thing my truck has more of vs. the LS1 is weight... :flipoff:
Here is somewhat of a checklist that I need to get to make sure the entire engine is assembled before going in. If anyone could throw something out there that I may be missing, (stewart) and others that would help.
Things I need to get the entire engine assembled
-timing cover gasket
-oil pan gasket
-flywheel
-engine temp sensor
-intake manifold bolt (I seem to have misplaced one)
-oil pickup tube
-Wiring harness
-PCM (getting the 411 PCM from stewart)
Here is the things that are going to get done during the swap
-CAI
-custom grind cam, springs and rods, (ill post up a reply when I figure out what specs I decide to go with.)
-plugs and wires (any suggestions? MSD? Accell?)
-Pacesetter LT's and ORY from Texas speed
-flowdisaster from the old truck until I feel like getting something else
As for the transmission
-FLT 65e
-TQ verter (not sure what size until I know the cam)
Rearend
-auburn LSD
-not sure on what gears I want. only because I dont know if I want to be able to launch awesome and have no top end or what. so these will wait.
By the way, would it be a good idea to go ahead and get the crankshaft and rod bearings replaced while we already have the bottom end off, just for safe measures?
you have a oil pickup tube. you only need the gasket for it. how did you lose an intake bolt? they dont come out of the intake that easy lol. dont forget about the wiring harness...thats a pretty big necessity lol.
Have the headers surfaced at a local machine shop, Pacesetters don't come surfaced. Install ARP rod bolts. Bearing inserts can be reused indefinitely as long as they measure ok, aren't worn/scored/scratched, and haven't curled at the parting line (still have good 'springiness' to them and no evidence of oil behind the bearing).

on wires and plugs i have the NGK tr55 ..... i am getting the MSD which danny already has and i found me a HELL OF A DEAL on MSD coil packs... so if you can find em cheap go for it....
my 2 pennies... i couldnt see anything else that i would suggest or know to suggest...
OH exhaust... you dont even have to do the flowmuster..... if you run just straight 3" all the way back to your axle, it wont be too loud and will give you a good amount of backpressure.... its what i basically have... but i gave it a little bit of help being loud in the process... its much louder than what it was at the BBQ
Ill probably end up going with MSD anyway, but ill probably go with the flowdistaster just to see how it sounds.
