Maybe some clarification would be good. From the way this string started out, the request was to keep the stock compressor. That is why I began posting from the beginning. With that said, maybe I turned in the wrong direction. :whack: I was thinking about keeping my stock ('86) compressor, but changed that thought. Not sure of what's all involved, but would like to keep serpentine setup as is (with exception of future UDP).

With the stock 5.3 compressor, there's another pulley/tensioner b/t the crankshaft pulley (or UDP) and compressor that's not shown in the pic I posted earlier. My engine didn't have it when it was delivered to me, so I got one from a salvaged truck this morning. Salvage yards are gold mines for DIY projects. :thumb:

I'll post up another shot later this week, with the tensioner in place. This is a slow moving project due to it's custom nature.

It might be just the perspective of the image you posted, but how is the serpentine belt going to get around the radiator hose or inlet from the radiator? It doesn't look like there is enough room to make it to what appears to be the belt tensioner. I mean it looks like the shadow cast by the neck of the radiator inlet connection is just right above the belt.

Can you provide another shot ..... PHOTOBUCKET so we can see a different perspective?

I'm not sure if this is the set up he's running or not but camaro & firebird LS setups have a seperate belt for the A/C compressor that runs behind the serpentine belt. That might be why it looks like the belt is going to hit the water neck.

That is correct... Just look at the pic, and you can imagine the shorter belt running under the water neck (horizontally) over to where the crankshaft pulley would be. There's at least 1.5" of space b/t the water-neck and the AC compressor.

ALL Gen III 5.3s are setup to run a seperate belt from the AC compressor to the crankshaft pulley. The serpentine belt only turns the water pump, steering pump, and alternator 'round with the crankshaft. Some even pull that AC belt off when they make dyno runs... Oops, was that a trade secret?!?! :lol:

Motoxlifer...Very nice '98! Who did your LS1 to old harness grafting? I have the same truck & am at the stage where I need to know what to do with the old engine harness, which incorporates alot of the vehicles wiring, such as anti-lock brakes wiring, A/C controls wiring, etc... Thanks, Gar

Thanks. I didn't graft anything, I simply seperated the wiring that went to the old motor from everything else and removed it, leaving the trucks existing computer. It would have probably been better to graft them together like you said, but I wasn't aware that it could be done or who could do it until after the fact. I was told about a guy who does this sort of work but I can't remember his name. I'll get his name for you on Monday if you would like. I haven't gotten into hooking up my A/C yet. I'm still debating on how to mount the compressor. When the time comes I'll connect the A/C up to the new computer. I also don't have my guages working yet. I bought all Autometer guages and plan on fabbing some sort of panel to fit in the original clusters location.
