Coming along good. Can't wait to see it finished.
Been pretty laxed on this build till lately. Messing up my gto along with the winter coming up, i am getting more motivated to get stuff in order.
Lately i managed to install the other door panel finally, lol... I also masked everything off and vinyl dyed the burgandy dash all black to match the door panels.
Started to pull the cluster apart and stopped when i realized the wiring is going to be a bit more involved for my new gauge panel. Kinda holding off till its all apart and do it all at the same time.
Realized that i need to put something together also to block off where the ac stuff is on the firewall as well. Thinking i will use a sheet of aluminum and paint it with some black wrinkle paint.
Also started to peel the 2 sided 25 year old tape off the truck from where the moldings were. What a nightmare. Plastic razor blades and goo gone were the key. Unfortunately there are a few holes where moldings snapped in so i may actually end up trying to find some black molding to put back on so i dont need to fill in the holes or repaint them since some rust was starting to form.. I could repaint this, but my better judgement tells me to stop before it turns into a HUGE expensive long project.
I have also decided to part ways with my turbo plans and sell the turbo, intercooler, blow off valve, and wastegate and just keep it simple so its reliable and runs forever.
Heres a shot of the dash vinyl dyeing outcome..

im just going to dye the other two lower dash trim pieces on the sides in front of the doors black and leave the floorboards and bench seat burgandy since they are in great shape and its all original. Figure the 2 tone interior wont be that bad since they arent really faded. The dash and door panels were terrible and are all black now.
was going to initially have a crazy setup like this.... but am deciding to stay simple and just have an extra 2 gauges where the top vent is supposed to be.. One will be for fuel pressure, the other will be for trans temp. aside from that the other gauges go into the gto..
initial plans...http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0268.jpg
calming down and coming to reality plans (sans unpictured fuel pressure/fuel level gauges which will set where the upper vent is in a flushed in abs plastic piece)

got bored and really cleaned the trans some more and repainted it.. Just need to get some -an fittings and push style hose and find a good trans cooler to run up front. http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0346.jpg
the collection of stuff waiting.. http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0345.jpg
Instead of getting all elaborate, i just implemented my left over stock gto manifold and got this cnc'd piece so the throttlebody that came with the lm7 bolts on. In the end it was cheaper than buying one of those 90mm throttlebodys for the ls2 style intake thats for cable driven throttle. Not the most performance oriented deal but it should work alright hopefully..http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0333.jpghttp://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0348.jpg
tossed my gto fuel rail and injectors in there recently. Got an earls -an adapter for the push on style hose connector to convert it to -6. Just going to run -6 back to a 02 corvette fuel filter and then the two (feed/return) back to the sender on the stock left side gas tank with a walbro 255 inside via a 87 sending unit..(thanks for helping me with this stuff guys!)
cleaned the valve covers off and used some vht black wrinkle high heat paint for the valve covers.. turned out pretty nice. I LOVE me some wrinkle finish..

slapped this gto water pump on, but realized i have to space it out to clearance the truck accessory pullies/bracket along with the crank pulley. In the end i could have probably installed my gto crank pulley and ran a gto steering pump and alternator, but im not trying to spend a bunch of money. I just ordered a spacer kit from dingo to make it line up.http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...IMAG0230-1.jpg
Next steps are to get a driveshaft, alternator, starter, 2x 02 camaro primary oxygen sensors, scholefeieldleder or however its spelled long toobs, and figure out some kind of exhaust that my neighbors do not want to kick me in the face 24-7 since my gto shakes pictures off their walls when i leave in it at 11pm to go looking for trouble on a weekly basis...(when its not broken down, lol)...
I also used a pick tool and pulled the chrome crap out of the window moldings on the front and rear glass which IMO made a HUGE difference in the blacking the entire truck out process. The chrome was like urine brown and looked like fecal paste anyways so it was living on borrowed time. I took the rain guard moldings off around the windows also in plans to have them powder coated black wrinkle finish to complete more of the all black plans.. Pictures to come..
Contemplating very lightly misting the tail lights with the vht night shades stuff (i dont like when the stuff is too thick and it looks like those 1987 gts tail light cover deals, i prefer them just to be lightly smoked like european bmw style lights).. Also throwing around the idea of blacking the chrome out on the grille and ornaments, but have run into issues on previous cars where the rocks chip the paint off. Have some black satin vinyl but i am pretty lazy to trim that out and wrap it as of lately.. May balk on the idea and leave it be. lol..
http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u...8/IMAG0222.jpg i wish i had photoshop and i would black it out and see what i thought.. Also want to take the bumper off and have it powder coated black wrinkle finish as well so there is NO chrome on the whole truck.
I will get some more pictures for ya'll to take a gander at as things progress. Not planning on putting a radio in this either, my ipod sounds fantastic with my fancy headphones and i want to keep this thing looking somewhat in its era. The whole r2d2 2011 radio cut into the stock 1980s dashboard looks goof to me. That and hardly anything i own has a radio in it in the end, im far too interested in making it a hillbilly hotrod to concern myself with wasting money on stereo stuff.. The stupidass kids around here bust your windows out and steal that stuff anyways. Id hate to have to shoot someone with a deer slug over a silly radio i dont need anyways right.. lol..
More to come!!
oh yea, i installed the other black mirror since that picture too, haha..
Noticed in this picture i still need the steam or coolant tube for the ls1 for the heads so the intake manifold bolts down flush. Its still missing since the truck manifold one sticks up too high.
Also, not to sound like a mongoloid, but what is that sensor in the pan? Is that for oil pressure or oil level or what? Mine is broken off. I dont see a plug for it in my nelson harness, but perhaps i need to put the sender for my auto skeeter gauges in there somehow for the cluster wiring? I havent really looked into the cluster wiring yet. I did notice the tach and speedo wires are in the harness, but as for the oil pressure and water temp, i am not sure... Also i expect ill run the senders and wiring for the fuel pressure and trans temp to the new sensors that came with those gauges, but not sure where to put the sensor into the trans. Figure ill just use this left over nitrous outlet fitting i have for running fuel from your stock ls2 rails to install the fuel pressure gauge on the end of the fuel rail where the nipple is stock. As for the fuel level gauge, i assume that will be a matter of just splicing into the stock 55 inch unnecessary large fuel gauge wiring :p.
Need to clean the interior out. Pretty dusty... I did find a sawed off pool stick with a duct tape handle under the seat that my grandfather used to smash peoples teeth out i guess. That will FOR SURE stay in there till i am dead since its the soul to the truck that will never die IMO.
Well im sorry there have been no updates here. I literally am going through the hardest time of my life right now. Ive been unemployed and in a rut for quite some time now, and it just seems as if everything else is piling up. Reality has set in and i have come to the conclusion that i take on entirely too many projects. Its a mental obsticle to overcome, but at the end of the day all the projects further pull me from reality and i struggle to complete anything for worries of everything going on at once. Kind of overwhelming i guess you could say.
I have decided i am going to finish this and sell the truck. Yes it has some sentimental value to me, but at the end of the day so will the money i can put towards keeping my home or fixing it up so its marketable. What is your guys feelings something like this truck of mine could sell for?
it will be a 84 scottsdale with very scarce rust here and there basically on the bed. The interior is like a 8.9/10, and most of it is new from LMC. The Gauges are all modernized autometers and were over 1000, the motor is basically a stock lower mileage 5.3 with a ls2 intake, dingo water pump spacer, alum radiator and electric fan, gto water pump with dingo spacer kit, dingo mounts, schofeild headers, nelson harness, nelson ecu, ls2 injectors, ls2 fuel rail, 4l80e, full disc brakes, corvette master cylinder, new wheels and tires, new fuel sender and 255 walbro pump.
I dont really even know where to begin on pricing this because yes its older, but at the same time its rare to find an older truck like this in such good shape. They seem to be saught after. I returned from a local hot rod show this afternoon and had all sorts of people looking at it just driving through so i know a true bowtie gear head will appreciate it. I just can not continue down this path and i must get some money out of it.
Any help any of you could shed to gauge an asking price for this when its complete would be appreciated. Where do i even market this thing at so it gets attention? Im trying to move it quickly once its completed so i have even contemplated having someone like maaco paint the bed after a good friend of mine helps me with the bodywork on it.
man that sucks, but you know what you have to do. how much do you think you will have into the truck when done? might be better to sell as is and part out all the LS swap parts. i have about 13k or more my truck and dont think i could sell for that much.
i separated with my wife, i dont really even care about this stuff at the moment. im about to just tow it to the family farm and forget about it till my mind is fixed. Id give up all of this garbage to fix this crap.
its hard to even think straight now honestly.
Good luck brother we are pulling for you!
sorry to hear that. taking a break or getting away for a while seems to help for the better.
Keeping your life in order is 10x more important than vehicles. I sold my 69 (wish I wouldn't have) to get something reliable to drive to college. Kicking myself in the ass, but life is more important.
