I have got everything swapped from the truck 4.8 to the LS1 and was ready to bolt the trans up but the flywheel needs to be resurfaced and I think I might better go ahead and stick a clutch in, I am afraid the clutch from the car won't be strong enough for the weight of the truck, any suggestions on a clutch?
you can contact spec / star clutches , they are badass, i drove in a z28 that had a stage III and it ripped my neck off, very strong clutch
good luck,
allen
:imwstupid: on that. i went with the spec stage 3 like allen said mainly due to the same reason you are. i dont wanna replace a clutch after i already got it all in there, id rather do it once the right way. i kept an eye on ls1tech/ls1.com group buys and got in on one from SpeeDemon Motorsports last month with a flywheel and Carbon clutch for like $469, but you wont need a flywheel(my clutch setup was sold before i got it)Quote:

I got my flywheel resurfaced and order a spec 2 clutch, I was afraid the spec 3 might be a little too agressive for normal street driving.
I got the engine and trans stuffed in last night, the late model trucks don' have as much room as the earilier models do, if I had to do it again I think I would do it without the trans. I am going to measure for my Denny's driveshaft this evening and continue hooking up the accessories.
Congrats!!
Ya i know what you mean about the trans and shit, kind of tight.
Denny's is awesome in my opinion, they def. took all of my 10 calls and never really got mad, hahahaha
my shaft is in btw, and everything smoothed out, i'm still a little cautious to test it out at high speeds, but the only vibe i feel is between 70-75, may be something else, i'll start ts that next, doh.
good luck,
allen
I measured for my driveshaft this evening, my stock crossmember was a perfect fit for the 6 speed and I could have used either the Trans Am or the truck transmission mount. The distance from the back of my trans to the front of my differential flange was 61 5/8". Allen I imagine yours was a little longer wasn't it?
Mine was 60 7/8, i think the 6speeds are a tad shorter, i may be wrong, maybe 1500sleeper can answer that.
what shaft are you thinking of getting? because denny's should only build you a HD aluminum, 3.5", that's all they would build for me.
the quality is awesome, if my vibes go away after i install the 3.42's then i know they should have built me a 4" (if they come that large in HD) or my gears were fubarred.
keep us updated,

1. what ya mean if the vibe goes away with 3.42's? you wouldnt hit critical speed with that numerically low gearing? or am i confused?Quote:

2. the t56's are a tad shorter, the tailshaft on the 4L60e makes it a tad longer
4L60e = 30" (27 spline)
T56 = 26.37" (26/27 spline - input/output)
(from end to end, t56 - not including input shaft)
