Rod bearings are usually not too bad to diagnose, start the engine, rev to 2000-2500 and hold steady then goose the throttle, if you get a few loud bangs in there while revving (louder and deeper than its normally like) then you can prettymuch bet its a rod bearing. If you cannot tell from that, do the same thing only in gear, hold to 2000rpm against the converter and goose the throttle, with the engine loaded the rods will clang fuggin loud if its failed.
Why not pull the pan on the 4.8 and check it?
Sorry to hear that. Hope everything works out for ya man. Have you told your dad yet?
nope, he still hasnt told his dad! but maybe we will get super stoned tonight and let it slip in front of him
Rods make a double knock....that's the best way to tell. Most people cannot hear that if they haven't already heard a few. With is many of these I've heard with LOUD carbon knocks, I'd say a rod knock on an LS is tough to diagnose by ear.
Lol! Yea srry for the rant on the other page, I was extremely pissed off and acted immature for no reason. It made me look like a fool on these boards. Im really not like that! ha
The pan is being pulled tommorow for inspection and to determine the final result. And Im telling my dad tonight...Well see how it goes..
<fingers crossed>
