Ok well i have around 1000-1500 to spend, and if i did put gears in i would do it right and have front and back done. As for soccer im only 18 but ive been playing premier soccer (Called maple up here) since i was 9, and just playing soccer since i was 5 but as of now im playing at a local college, i play sweeper.
hmm i must be a something special then ,cause i just put mine in this weekend just the back only on my 04 ,and theyre working just fine.i was concerned at first,but when i went to take the driveshaft out ,to be safe i realized it was freerollin wile in park .so that tells me were good.just my 2 cents,because i had alot of people tell me the same thing,and we are here too help each other from our individual expieriences.maybe this info will help someone in a pinch or that cant afford too change both at the same time.so i would say you dont have to change both in order to swap rears.if it was a perfect world i guess it would be smart to do both,i know i would of liked to .but def. change em out b4 you push that 4wd button tho.lol.Quote:

Ya i started asking around about the g80 and im def. not going with that. But for the gears i guess im looking at around 700-800, then i have to have someone install them since i dont know how so....looking at another 800 or so to do that.
Yeah, a 8.5" G80 isn't good for performance but does great in a grocery getter. A 9.5" G80 is strong, it has a lot more mass in the casting.
Im not getting a g80 cause its just not something for me, plus i dont know if i am even going to change the gears cause i cant afford to spend the money people are telling me it will be to change the front and back. The gears in the front are fine, its just the ones in the back, and i guess to change the ones in the front its a real b**** and a guy around here who does only gearing told me it would take him 2 days. So im looking at around 800 or so for just parts, and now at around a grand for labor....so i dont know anymore
Maybe i have a transfer case issue. If you put my truck on jackstands in the rear and in two wheel drive, the front shaft spins with force, you can't stop it. Guaranteed there is no power at the front wheels, but like i said, a chance i wouldn't want to take just in case.
Well there is no way i can afford to do 4.10's in the front and back...but the good news is i can do posi.
you need to shop around.the gears should not cost you 800.i think you meant posi and gears.sounds right.you definately could get them alot cheaper than 400 tho if thats what your saying.post up a thread ,wtb gears and or posi unit..i think red told me he has a set of 4.10s.1000 labor sounds real high for just rear gears.even if i took a good shop 8hrs for the rears ,wich it dont,@60- 80 pr hr.that still isnt a 1000.just shop around youll get all set up man.shoot i could get it towed to ny and have the gears installed for less.although my family owns a tow company.lol.
Rear gear install labor should be about $400 at the most. If you were to do the front, the labor would not be that much more than the rear....it's tougher to get the front diff out but a lot easier to set up the front than the rear.
