should i upgrade timing chains to an LS2 timing chain an that dampner? or should i just run my stock one considering ill only be spinning up to 6100
Might as well do the Heavy duty chain since your in there. Its only another 40.00 or so. Would be a good peice of mind. Glad we could be of assistance.
is the LS2 chain what i need? i think thats what i read as an upgrade for the 5.3
LS2 timing chain
wedge style dampner
what else should i put while its torn apart?
i have 1,000 miles on my motor should i really replace the o-ring on the pick up tube?
I use a simple rule of thumb for the oring. If its been at operating temp then toss it. That simple little $3 oring can kill your whole motor. Just be sure and replace it with the correct one. They are color coded. That should be it.. Chain # is 12586482
your the man Jon! thanks
ill bring the o-ring with me to the dealer or to Thunder Racing when i go get the dampner.
yall think i should install a shift kit along with my stall an servos? should i buy the longer servo pin with the Billet servos an 4th gear servo?
thanks
i was reading on gmfullsize.com of a guy building an LQ4 an he sprayed oven cleaner on it..wouldnt that ruin the oil for a few changes bc it doesnt all drain out when you change the oil?
pics pics keniff!!
pics of what my friend? im on nights an its too cold when i wake up to pull the everything apart.
ill do a small write up on it :)
write up would be nice on obs ls1 swap:)
i got a small write up on the cam swap an servos..but nothing in major detail ya know? imma have to start adding more parts needed to my list an such forth..
well i changed out the tensioner for the wedge type LS2 an took pics ill get them posted tomorrow when i get home an do a small write up
what yall think about a flat black primer paint job with clear an a new front bumper with tow hook holes bc it will be used as a wt not a show truck.
well, i pulled everything back apart to change the tensioner out...do i really need to make a write up?
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09001-2.jpg
pull the pulley, front cover
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09002-2.jpg
pull all the bolts to the oil pan to expose the pick-up tube
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09003-2.jpg
pull the oil pump and loosen the pickup tube so you can get the tube out of the bottom of the oil pump (change the o-ring imo, it's cheap)
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09004-2.jpg
take the tensioner out and replace with your new one
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09005-2.jpg
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d8...11-09006-1.jpg
put it all back together...
you'll need a 13mm deep drive socket for the pick up tube nuts, 10mm deep drive with a 6" extension for the cover, the oil pan, and the oil pump. the pick-up tube is a lil weird so take your time taking the bolt out.
my wiring harness an Circle D 3000 has arrived ill be putting my lifters an heads on Wed so i hope. ill then throw the harness in the truck. im going to cut my fuel lines down to prep them for the vette filter. im going to drop my tank an get it ready to install my new fuel pump. Redheartbeats sticky in the electrical section will be used as reference bc im dumb when it comes to wiring.
im putting a fuel shut up switch inside the truck..so all i have to do is get a 12v on/off switch, cut the fuel pump lead wire, add new wire to reach on side of the switch, then add wire from the other side back to the fuel pump lead. that way when its on off it cuts the power to the fuel pump, then click it on it'll send power to the fuel pump. right?
im ordering my LTs tomorrow while im
at work i hope..an i still need a throttle cable, cruise cable, an a throttle cable bracket. ill be picking up my PS lines hopefully thurs if not ill make some at work ;)
Who did your wiring harness?
Are you gonna go with the Schoenfeld conversion headers?
nice man,,keep gettin pics:)and yea u need to do a write up lol
Jon at Nelson Performance did my wiring harness. great people
to deal with, an being that i have a GEN IV block Jon did all the research he could to help me out.
yeah im ordering their LTs tomorrow..hopefully they'll be here before i swap back to days so i can have them PC :)
ill be making an order with Josh Powers for his AC bracket asap.
well i just ordered my LTs :) got them in the black coating so i can have them powdercoated instead. the only thing i want shiney under the hood is the FAST an the CAI.
i cant wait to finish this monster...imma get videos of sime burn outs an lauches ;)
well a small update...ran into a snag with the fittings i needed oh well
heads are on
pushrods adjusted
water pump on
valve covers on
set up for a test fit tomorrow
the fittings i needed ordered
got my fuel line
order V band clamps
got harness, fuel pump, an stall home
gonna go pick up some chain in a little bit bc i dont have a lift plate.
imma test fit the motor today.
also i have an LS7 valley cover...there's an oil sender screen that goes in before the sensors? of so its not the same as the LS2 screen that i ordered. or the sensor i have is too long..i guess ill have to wait an see when its time for the wiring harness.
motor is bolted in, factory wiring harness is trimmed down to the few little things needed.
fixed all the crap needed to to be reconnected.
im going to pull the fuel tank tomorrow an put the fuel pump in, an trim down the fuel line.
ill be installing my tranny an wiring harness as soon as the servos get here.
all i need is a few more things (tune mainly)
Where's the pics? :pics:
Keniff, I envy you. I wish I was at the point you are....
I hope to put the motor and tranny in together though. What fitting gave you troubles? Fuel fittings?
Flattopwill: they dont make a 5/16 tube to female swival -6AN fitting (atleast summit doesnt have so say) SO i had to buy a 5/16 to male -6AN then a -6AN(female) to -6AN (female) swivel
an its taken me a long time to get here. if the motor ever has to come back out im cutting the tabs on the frame mounts off. theyre in the way when your working alone.
Redheartbeat: my laptop is broken an im lazy to fix it so when i go up to my moms tomorrow (i hope) ill upload them.
ill be working on my radiator, an intake tomorrow too.
hopefully my LTs will come in soon..i need to get them powdercoated.
i ordered vette servos, an the superior 4th gear servo an cover. i needa tear into the tranny tomorrow or saturday...we'll see.
Redheartbeat: the VVS plus is the speed sensor? or am i wrong.
i also have a speedo wire...so uh can you break it down for me on where to hook it up? i already cut most of the wiring back at the firewall...so maybe i screwed up?
....good to know. So these are fuel system adapter fittings right?
no sir.
your return line is 5/16 an your fuel feed line is 3/8" tube... Russell makes a 3/8 tube to -6AN swivel fitting (1) (639200) Russell makes 3/8 you need 2 for a return system, 1 for a returnless (640850) an 5/16 you need 1 for a returnless/2 for a return system (640860) fuel rail adapters. depending your intake;
Return you'll need:
(2) 610020 -6AN to straight hose an i like the 45* on the fuel rail side
(2) 610090
Returnless:
(1) 610020
(1) 610090
you'll need a Dorman 800-155 double check it should be the double bead 3/8" line
also, should i splice my ALT wire into the ALT wire that was in my original harness?
imma order the oil block off plate with no bosses so i can drill an tap for the oil pressure sensor. i also need to drill an tap the water pump for the water temp gauge. Redheartbeat, can i drill the water pump close to the thermo?
Why don't you use the port on the back of the passenger side head for your coolant temp? S&P sells the adapter for 18.50
its close to the firewall...im a lil uneasy about it being there. i can drill an tap it there but id rather just drill an tap the water pump.
they also make the oil block off plate adapter...but why pay 20.00 for something i can do at my house?
Its difficult to work with spark plug changes and many things since the sensor is back there. I'd tap behind the tensioner, lots of stock to hold the sensor. You could do it by the heater hose outlets. Another option could be to tap the large water plug under the driver side of the block.
I've never done a truck alternator to OBS setup, the one wire splice trick works on the Fbody alt.
All the speedo wiring goes to the pcm from the transmission, both front and rear sensors. You have a speedo output from the PCM that you connect to the head unit.
:burnrubb::chevy: just went through the whoel thread....nice project you got going
im dumb...where would that be redheartbeat?
imma try the 1 wire splice...may or may not work lol
socal1: thanks man....im not rich so its not a bagged, body dropped, pearl 2 tone, twin turbo, 6.2/6L80E like a lot of people build lol
im building this with whats left over lol
IIRC, the pcm has a green wire with white strip coming from it, go to the DRAC module behind the glove box, cut the light blue wire with black stripe and the red wire with white stripe and then splice all three together. You should have speedo and cruise after that.
hook my pink speedo labeled wire to those 2 correct?
also...
Redheartbeat: i bought a brass 1/8 to 3/8 coupler my valley cover is 16mm so im going to retap the valley cover vs drill an tap the block off plate.
I did something similar to what you're doing for the oil pressure, I had an old broken sending unit so I broke it down and tapped it to 1/8".
If the wire they broke out of the harness is pink for speedo hookup then that sounds right. It should go to red or green PCM connector 50.
Keniff, did u have Nelson do your harness?
Jon at NP did it...looks darn good!
the intake an TB is installed. didnt get around to
the fuel pump :( imma try an do it before work tomorrow night..if i get enough sleep
Sweet. So everything was labeled? I'm a tard at wiring. I need a wiring harness for dumbies....
yeah me too...thats why i paid for a custom one. its not that hard actually...but i dknt have time for it so id rather pay for a high quality item.
well the water pump is almost drilled through..the darn battery died on my cordless drill :( oh well
imma try an drop my fuel tank tomorow before work so i can atleast get that part done.
imma take my drive shaft to wok an cut the old carrier bearing off an hopefully get the new one installed..we'll see
So keniff.....when can we expect these pics?!?...
maybe mon-tues gotta head to my moms for my fittings an the other fuel pump. its 195 with the hotwire kit from Racetronix, anyone wanna buy it so i dont have to send it back? if not then ill return it so i can get my money back.
