NOT entirely true - traction on the AWD trucks is either All or Nothing. My AWD SS only has a mail-order tune, Corsa, Outlaw, 2800 converter, and fully hardened tranny - it&#39;s not what you would call a worldbeater by any stretch, maybe mid-14&#39;s in the 1/4... Anyways the truck on stock Goodyears would often bark all four going into 2nd - in one instance bouncing the motor off the rev limiter (man it sounded good :drool:); breaking the rears loose from a stop was very common under halfway-favorable conditions, which I quickly came to love because the front-end still moves the truck forward :smile:; one of the scarier moments driving the SS was racing from a stoplight in OKC and halfway across the intersection the truck suddenly lost *all* traction at 35-mph :eek: The stock Goodyears were obviously worse than crap, actually downright dangerous, so I now have Pirelli 295&#39;s and they&#39;re much better (no more barking into 2nd) but again today conditions were favorable (cold engine, tires, & pavement) and I put the SS into a mild AWD drift jumping into evening rush hour traffic... The only advantage the AWD SS has over the 2WD SS/VHO IMO is the 4.10 gears.

ok a modded awd may can break the tires loose agreed. around here they stick pretty good, even one&#39;s that run 14.41 quarter times. i couldn&#39;t get daniels to break loose for long not one time since ive driven it. awd is a plus and a negative because of drivetrain loss on hp. i think awd is definitely a negative after u reach the point where u can break them loose because to me itd seem much harder to launch than a 2wd with slicks. ud have to have slicks on all 4 and hope u have enough hp to warm them up. :nutz:

mild drift as in merging between an 18 wheeler at a 45* angle and then swinging the back in around to miss the old blue hair in the slow lane and then driving backwards at mach 2 on the left side tires only....

"the VHO&#39;s are sweet look at SCIV&#39;s and Jethro&#39;s trucks and you may decide to go that route&#33; u get the same engine as the ss without the hassles of insurance protection and everyone labeling it as "another example of how chevy slaps the ss badge on everything these days". thats not how i feel necessarily but to an extent it does make sense. Take a look at the original SSS concept and what youll see is a highly aggressive beast of a truck with far more in its pants than what they actually made production wise. the plain truth is you can&#39;t go wrong with any of these choices. another one truck i always thought was sharp is the rst&#39;s from regency in dallas. they are soooooo clean and yet another beautiful option on the market. if i were going to rate the trucks i&#39;d buy in order it&#39;d have to be:
1. RCSB RST
2. JG
3. VHO
4. SS
5. RCSB 5.3

like i said tho win win all the way around. with the ss remember some are awd so while ull never lose traction which is awesome, u also lose power and gain weight. Chevy i think is about to wake up and put the ss out there so far ahead of the rest that it will be hard to match its combination of options(see THIS&#33;)

Nice write up. About the traction issures. I can now brake all 4 of mine loose, depending on the pavement type. And if the roads are wet, i wouldnt dare to even give it half throttle. My new retune made my truck run like a bat out of hell. Im ready to get back to the track.

My retune made it more agressive, true on dry pavement it is hard to break them loose for a while, but iven if it is just foggy outside, or really humid, I can break them loose. If its raining, i have to be careful, to muhch throttle and my truck gets sideways, but Im not sure how good my tires are, my next set shoudl be better, so maybe I wont be able to do it then.
