Talked with Mike over at Comp Cams today and he said use the stock 7.4 pushrod with the LS6 heads just like you said Greg. I'm going to install the 7.4's and just make sure it's centered across the top of the valve stem.
The best check for the LS6 cam will be to do the same. If you're not centered across the top of the valve stem you will have to go with 7.45's. They said it could go either way depending on your configuration.
Now the question is are your heads milled or not? If they're milled you will need rods that much shorter. 7.4 for stock head and 7.35 for -.055 milled deck.

Ok, so I just picked up another 2wd RCSS 5.3 '99 Silverado after kicking myself for the past year when I sold my other '99 :bash: . I still have the '02 LS6 cam/valve springs, and 7.450 hardened Trick Flow pushrods that never made it into my old truck and now they are going into this one. I've spent a lot of time reading old posts and other internet sights, but still don't really have a definitive answer. This is my setup:
5.3/auto
Pacesetter LT's and y-pipe into 3" Hooker muffler
K&N CAI
'02 LS6 cam/springs
Trick Flow 7.450 pushrods
Stock 5.3 heads
Tuned (not sure by who, yet)
3.42 posi
My question is, are the 7.450 push rods correct for my application? I have read about the .050 smaller base circle, which is actually .025" smaller per side. Will I cause any damage (valve-to-piston clearance, spring binding, etc) using a pushrod that is essentially .025 longer than original? Should I spend the $$ to get the 7.425" pr's? I'm doing this truck on a student's budget, so I can't get the best of the best (hence why I am using a $150 cam/spring combo). Also, what kind of 1/4 times should I expect when it is finished? I am hoping for a realistic low 14.
Any input from guys that have the LS6 cam in their truck is greatly appreciated. :thumb:

with the '02 and up LS6 cam, use the longer push rods and everything will work fine. We just put a 5.3 in a '72 Cutlass with an '02 LS6 cam WITH the longer push rods and the motor is perfect.

Just my opinion, but skip the LT1. I'll try and get some pics.
Feel free to ask anything you want.
Since the '64 is a little smaller, I would want the aluminum block for slightly less weight. You will need LS1 intake and accessories for that clean, sleek look. The swap is very straight forward.
I would like to skip the LT1 and go right to the LS1, but the price difference... :bash: I am driving a perfectly nice '96 TA with the LT1/4L60e (obviously) with nice leather interior, fully loaded, and clean title that I paid $3000 for last year. The plan was to just use the drive line out of that car, sell off any unneeded parts, and then drop in a mean carb'd stroker and make it a strip car. Hell, I can't even find an LS1 engine/tranny combo for $3000. :bs:. The car is being done right, but it's not an open budget by any means.
