Another option is to get it up on jack stands, get a motorcycle jack from Harbor Freight (or similar (cheap)), and use that to lower and raise the gas tank.

But my preference is a minimum of three guys lifting it off and just set it somewhere safe.

i found it easier to remove the bed than to drop the tank. put the rear on jack stands, remove the rear tires and slide the bed back about 1.5 feet. no need for saw horses or any of that crap. the pump will be right there.
