Miles are nothing. That motor can take the bigger cam, just do simple maintenance on it and make sure you use the supporting mods to go with the higher lift cam. And LTs are waaay better than those shortys.

I thought the same thing about mileage, About 15 years ago I had a 79 smokey & bandit trans am, I bought a used 400ci Cheap w/ around 90k and installed some good hi-po heads & cam, set of headers, the motor ran very good until about 2 months after I got on it real good and it started knocking in the bottom end, when i disassembled the motor i found all the crank bearings very worn, (alot of miles) since then I build all my own engines I'v built enough engines in the past and have seen the way the bearings wear, Im not looking to trash the motor just yet, Keeping the Rev's down, I need to save some money so i can build it...Planing on a 5.7 out of this engine w/ these heads.
Welcome
Miles are nothing for an LS engine. An old Chevy is a lot more ready to make miles than an old Poncho and an LS will go 5 times farther under the same conditions as an old school Chevy so it's an apples to oranges comparo. Besides, a lot of those T/A's had something worse than a 400 Pontiac....the dreaded 403 Olds....
Yea but with an engine thats got alot of miles/wear & tear one dosen't know when it will go until it's to late..
