gears?

hey by any chance does anyone have a tutorial on changing gears in our trucks,i just wanna familiarize my self tonight for tommorrow,when im changing the out.my buddy is gonna help me set em up ,hes done hundreds .but hes not real ambicious,so ill be doing everthing else.and i mean everything.

8.5's won't fit in an 8.6.

Camaros had 8.5's in the 1970's.

this camaro was a 80-81.i looked in the gear book and it said it would fit to 02 ,but the book only went to o2.the spline was 30 on the mini spool and ours are 31.so i wont use the mini spool.ill use my eaton unit ,if i didnt blow it when i finished shattering the gears last night.

every thing im finding says ring and pinion sets 8.5 &8.625 chevy.hopefully it works.im going to tear it down now.

80-81 uses the same 8.5 as I mentioned from the 70's. If you find the 8.5 set works in the 8.6 (99+) axle, be sure to post up!

Rammy where is the pictures of your truck. Yes get a 14 bolt. Greg, the tbss 14 bolt has a weird lug, so i would just try to get one from a vho like you suggested.

well theyre in and work just fine.dont know why i guess but it all fit .pattern was great ,minimal shimming and back lash was fine.i like the 410s ,not mich diff from the 373s .i only see a diff,when i let off to slow down ,and its not so luggish in o.d..couple hundred rpm.for those who said they wouldnt fit ,idk.theyre in and seem fine.thanks for all the advice.o yeh what do i need retuned for ?just speedo calibration ,,or anything else ?

who knows maybe youre right and theylle snap in a week.lol.i honestly dont know y they worked ,but the old time racer that helped me ssaid "theylle work just put em in"so who am i.lol.like i said for some reason every 8.5 i looked up said 8.5 and 8.625.evidentally theyre that close.so far so good .
