There's 2 coolant sensors in the 96-2000 L31's. Use the green 1 wire sensor but I'd recommend tapping the head if you want a true temperature reading. The adapter sticks out so far that you'll see a 10 - 25 degree difference.

oh no kidding well that sucks i just put the head on today!
put some grease on the drill bit to catch the chips as you drill the hole. Take a vacuum and suck the chips out that go into the engine. Same with the tap, coat it in grease and thread it.
Yep, you can do it with a 90 degree drill if you have a steady hand. LOL

okay well i was dubbing around with the 4.3 the other day and some frigen how i over looked the temp sensor on the head its a 1 wire sensor with a rubber gromet covering it. this is the one i should be using correct? the other one i pulled has a long dipstick looking thing like the one in the drivers side head of the 5.3
Yep, thats the one you should have been using. Save some engine money for an eye exam. :laugh:
