-
Sooner than you think. It's not going anywhere until you get the PCM programmed to remove/disable the VATS.
-
VATS??? what is that....man i thought i was gonna drive it today
-
vehicle anti theft system?
-
Vehicle anti-theft system. Keeps it from getting stolen when you have a factory install. It communicates with the body control module and optional chip on the ignition key to allow the engine to run for more than 5 seconds at a time. You can start the truck but it will die immediately until the VATS is disabled.
-
so i have to get a tune before my truck will even run?
-
wooo crank it over and let it run for 5 seconds at least it will get you pumped till the tune comes it! haha sick. do the 1998 c-1500 like mine have vats? i have a security light that blinks but thats it
-
i dont have a security light....does that mean i might not have that problem?
-
also i thought there was a way to disable the vats....maybe

PROCEDURE:
1. Insert key, attempt to start the vehicle and leave the key in the ON position.
In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.
2. When the Security light goes OFF, turn the ignition to the OFF position.
Leave ignition OFF for 20 Seconds.
3. Attempt to start the vehicle again and leave the key in the ON position.
In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.
4. Turn the ignition to the OFF position for 20 Seconds.
5. Attempt to start the vehicle again and leave the key in the ON position.
In some vehicles, the Battery and Security light will blink for several seconds, and then shut off. Then the Security light will then remain ON. Leave the ignition ON until the Security light goes OFF. This will take more than 5 mins.
6. Once this entire procedure has been completed (three times) your vehicle will start on the fourth attempt.
Note: Some vehicles perform the relearn in a different sequence. You may notice your security light, battery light and abs light will alternate. Once the security light is left out of the sequence that is considered one step. Repeat the procedure two more times and on the fourth time your vehicle will start.
