Nice Write Up Does Anyone Know If The 6.0 Is Pretty Much The Same As The 5.3 When It Comes To Swaping Out The Old 4.3?
Yeah it is basically the same, this write up was for a 6.0 and not a 5.3. So just go by this and ask questions if you have any
I want to add that not all 03 and newer are tbw, mine is a 4.3L and it is cable operated tb. And oh my truck is a 05
03^ v6 is dbc...v8 is dbw
mine is a 05
i have a 05 v6 and its dbc, i think what he is saying is all the v6 trucks are dbc.
oh my bad. im retarted. but thats good to know
so if i have a 04 4.3 truck withe the drive by cable ill need a 5.3 that is 02 or older?
I have a 99 silverado ext cab with a 5.3l
and a wrecked 2004 silverado with a 4.8l
want to put the body on newer model can it be done? any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Ok so heres my questions. How much of wire harness do I need? I looked under the fuse box on the fenderwell and noticed its assembled in blocks. Do I just need to take the block that goes to the motor or do I need more? Also how do I hook up the dbw gas pedal, I dont want to change the under the dash wiring. Can I take the V8 tourque converter and put it in my V6 trans? And finally, roughly how much should I have to give for a complete low milage motor?
Ok. I am just now finishing up with my 6.0 build and about to swap my 6.0 into my 2001 Silverado 1500 SCSB 2WD. I've got pretty much everything together, i just have a couple questions on some GM part numbers. First off, what would the part numbers be for the FRAME MOUNTS for the motor?? I purchased the motor mounts for the 6.0 already. Also, I did decide to go with factory chevy truck e-fans from a 2005 silverado. What are the part numbers for the mounts needed to bolt up the fans?? FYI...my truck is a 2001 Silverado 1500 Single Cab Short Bed 2WD with a 4.3 V6 in it. I am swapping in a 6.0 v8 LQ9 from a 2004 Silverado 1500HD. Any help would appreciated. I would like to try and go to Chevy this week to get the parts ordered that I need.
silverado fans means you need a 34" silverado radiator, its just a bolt in application then. THe PN for the mounts is in the V6-V8 conversion topic.
i might've just missed it in the thread, but will stock 99-02 5.3 exhaust manifolds bolt up to the stock 99 4.3 downpipes & cats?
awesome! thanks.
i know it's a little redundant, but i'm kinda spazzing right now because my only vehicle's dead & needs a new engine - and the swap won't cost too much more than replacing the V6, but i wanted to make sure i know everything extra i need:
complete 5.3 from oil pan to intake cover
5.3 engine harness
reflashed 4.3 ECU
all 5.3 accessories (although 4.3 power steering pump & alternator can work)
4.8 (or LS2) flywheel (i have the NV3500 trans)
5.3 engine mounts and frame mounts
5.3 intake tube
5.3 coolant, heater, a/c hoses
fuel line adapter pieces mentioned in the OP
the intake nipple mentioned in the OP (what exactly is that, by the way?)
that sounds like it...not sure on the afore mentioned intake nipple tho
does anyone have pictures of both ends of the Summit fuel line adapter pieces installed? that would be a big help
another question...
where exactly & with what did you cut the 4.3 fuel lines? did you do anything to the evap tube & does the 5.3 plug up to it with no modification?
one more...
i found a decent deal on an 01 LM7. now the question is - will everything line up correctly with a 99 trans? didn't they do something different with the crankshaft length in 01? i'll also be using the 4.8 flywheel/clutch setup with it. (with the 99 models, the 4.8 & 5.3 used the same flywheel/clutch so i reckon it would've later on too. i test-fitted 02 models with each other & they bolted on & lined up with the starter, so i should be good as far as that goes)
Should be a straight swap. The 6L LQ4 was the only one that had some different stuff, crank length.
Starter is the same on all 4.8 and 5.3 engines in 2001 regardless of trans. PM returned.
y'all're awesome! that's why i come here
Prolly Monday 'fore I get the answer to the next PM.
awesome thanks
kinda random, but the bolts that fasten the 4l60 flexplate to the crank will work with the 4.8 flywheel, right?
but you're still using the same thin flex plate. the flywheel looks to be a little thicker. do you reckon the ones off my 4.3 will work?
Do not use flexplate bolts for a flywheel.
lol my mistake I see that you said flywheel instead of flexplate.
new bit of joy...
the black PCM (with 4 plugs) from the V6 will not work with a Gen3 V8. you need the 0411 PCM (silver one with 2 plugs) to fire the coil packs. just found that out from Current Performance when talking about rewiring my harness for the manual trans
looks like i get to find one of them, too... & spend more money
