ya, the 3.42's are much taller/higher than the 4.10's so that shaft won't spin as fast. in third and OD, the shafts were breaking, scared the hell out of me.
plus the 3.42's allow me to go 80mph and still save gas, hehehe. so ya, you got it, the shaft will spin less in third and overdrive

what shaft are you thinking of getting? because denny's should only build you a HD aluminum, 3.5", that's all they would build for me.
the quality is awesome, if my vibes go away after i install the 3.42's then i know they should have built me a 4" (if they come that large in HD) or my gears were fubarred.

I got it running this afternoon but it wants to idle around 400 rpm's, what can I do to cure this? I couldn't run it to long because it would pump oil out of the trans without a driveshaft in it. Would advancing my cam timing cause this?
Would a vacum leak cause a low idle? Did you go with the LS6 cam? What timing chain setup are you using?
I have thought about a vaccum leak but I need to get my driveshaft in so I can let it run long enough to check it out, I did put in a 2002-2003 LS6 cam with a rollmaster timing set and I advanced my cam timing 2deg.

The swap looks good, the best thing about it is it'll look like the same engine and no one will know, (except for those ls1 ppl who see the alum. block)

I think I got the pic size fixed, I will probably sell the 4.8 and 5 speed they both have just under 31K miles.
how much for the setup then, i know a guy who is looking at putting that setup in a s10?
I would want $2000 for everything including the wiring harness and computer that would now fit that engine.

Ya I have a few toys but I am an old geeser too, one of the bikes in the background is my sons GSXR 1000, I have a Hayabusa and a 2002 Goldwing not in the pics. my zip is 72561
I set my cam timing back to straight up, that took care of my ses light and the low idle problem, I have an ABS and a parking light on and I think that is due to a conflict with the speedo showing 30 mph when I know I am doing 75 and the ABS system. I am going to have to get my gears in before long because it doesn't pull to good in 6th with the 3.42's. It runs fine and I can tell a difference in torque over the 4.8 but I think I need some pcm tuning probably with the T/A pcm, I am using the truck pcm now and I am not sure if it is giving the LS1 what it needs, I will be talking to Allen some more about that. My new aluminum shaft weighed 14#'s and the old one weighed 21#'s.
congrats on the install. You may notice a slight decrease in torque below 2K, but oh well, you're over 2K in no time.
I'm sure the truck pcm is holding back the truck, TM is a big killer of performance, as soon as it thinks you're having fun it will pull lots of power from the truck.

I sent Allen my pcm and got it back last thursday, the truck is running fine, I do have a couple more pics and I will try to post them in the next few days. As I told Allen we have some big hills here in Arkansas and I use one to check my performance on by leaveing it in 5th gear and see if I gain or lose by the time I get to the top. My 4.8 with headers, slp pulley and hppIII would break even to maybe gain 5 mph, I have tried once with the LS1 after I got my pcm back from Allen and I gained 24 mph on the same hill which I was proud of.
I had a guy want to know where the shifter was located on a T56 so I found this picture
nice location, i bet that feels a lot better than the stock location, i was thinking of moving my shifter to about that location, actually about 8inches or so more than yours, doh , that messes up my console plan, lol,

The stick you see in the picture is a stock T/A handle, I have since put a hurst on it but I still don't like the length and contour so I am going to try something else. Why did I expect a comment about the floor needing vacuuming when I posted this pic.?

I have been busy since my last post here, I swapped beds to a stepside, I put on a set of 20's and I did a 2-4 drop, installed electric fans and a cold air system and debadged the truck. I should have some pics in about a week. I plan on installing a Z71 Tahoe grille and bumper cap in the near future and a set of 4.56 gears.

Thas is awesome so can you give us a few more details on the changes you had to make for the t56 ? I am interested in doing this to my truck but move from my 4l60e
Since my truck was already a 5 speed I didn't have to do anything other than get a shorter driveshaft and go to 4.56 gears because of the difference in transmission gearing.
So the stock crossmember worked with the t56? everything just bolt up?

Don't make to much fun and I know it's a stupid question but the WS6 is the 5.3L out of a Z28 correct. What kind of horsepower did that bump you up to? Also you guys are the first ones that I've seen to have the 5spds did you have any troubles out of your tranny? At wot I miss third gear just about every time cause of the lack of fluid replacement by the clutch slave cylinder(I guess that's right)
I believe the WS6 is a handling package for the firebird/transam. The LS6 is a performance version of the LS1 found only in Corvettes, also a 5.7L engine. The LS6 intake was installed on the 2002 LS1 engines and added about 15hp. The 5.3L engine is a sister engine of the 4.8L and 6.0L truck engines. All engines mentioned are Generation 3 engines and share common parts with slight variations. The LS1/LS6 engines were placed in camaro, firebird and GTO vehicles. The 4.8/5.3/6.0 are truck based engines. The 5.7L LS1/LS6 engines have an aluminum block and save about 70 lbs of weight over the truck's cast iron blocks. The aluminum blocks cannot be re-bored more that about .005". Later model cast iron truck blocks can handle minor oversized bores. Good thing about a LS1/LS6 block is that a replacement block isn't much more expensive than having an iron block remachined correctly, assuming align honing/cleaning/boring and honing with torque plates/new freeze plugs/cam bearings.
So what motor is he talking about when he says an LS1 cause 4.8,5.3,and 6.0 are all LS1 motors correct?
No, Ls1's are in regular Vettes, '98 and up Z-28's, SS's, TA's, Formula's, GTO's.
LS6 in Zo6 Vettes.
LQ9 is the 6.0 in trucks.
I think the 5.3 is LQ4 but not sure.
They are all Gen III v-8s though
