Sawzall, torch, air die grinder with a cutoff wheel, 4.5" angle grinder with cutoff wheel, hacksaw... what ever it takes.

If anyone ever wondered, the spacing between exhaust port on the LSx head is 4.40". The distance on the BBC heads is close to 4-13/16 between ports. That means I get to move the ports closer together around .410". Now, if only my flanges show up tomorrow so I can work on the exhaust this weekend.

Well, UPS just delivered the exhaust flanges so I&#39;ll be yanking the stock stuff out tonight. If anyone ever wondered, GMPP PN 12480130 flanges start out as .500" thick and get blanchard ground flat to .450" thick. For &#036;15 each that&#39;s one hell of a bargain. I paid &#036;20 each to CrateEngineDepot.com so they&#39;d be here by this weekend. I thought they were supposed to be 5/16" thick. What a good surprise to be wrong. :smile:

Damn&#33; that is a good deal and that is really thick too. Most are like 5/16" to 3/8" right. The cheapest I&#39;ve seen em is like &#036;60.

Well, the verdict is in, not a good way to make a set of headers. It would probably be easier to take a universal kit that you assemble yourself than to try to make those fit. Still trying to decide if I chop them up and build it to fit or just send them back and get the universal build-it-yourself kit. This smilie really fits this undertaking. :duh:

It appears the big block sits a lot further forward so all the pipes a quite a bit too long. The BBC engine is a lot wider, too, so that is another obstacle due to the location of all the tubes and new flange.

Okay, the decision has been made. Tomorrow morning the nice shiny painted tubes get the hack job. I will cut them into individual pieces and build my own set of headers using their tubes as a start. This should be interesting and tax my welding abilities. I need a TIG welder for this job but I am going to go for it with the MIG and Oxy-Acetalene if needed. I&#39;ve seen robots weld headers using MIG so I should be safe. This will be my first attempt at building a set of headers so they may get botched up a bit, we&#39;ll see. I guess the Astro comes out of retirement for a while until I finish this project. I&#39;m sure I&#39;ll have to pick up some additional tubing somewhere to replace pieces I hack apart. The old skilsaw will have a metal cutting abrasive blade on it sectioning bends, I imagine. If they turn out okay, maybe I&#39;ll take them down and have them coated before permanent installation.

Hmmmm....let&#39;s see, &#036;100 worth of gas to get there and &#036;100 back and &#036;100 to return it and &#036;100 to come home. Damn, those headers just got mega expensive. :laugh:
