I would think a strap would have energy built up in it. I do think it will loss it quicker and not snap back as far if it broke.

Well if we want to get technical... haha, yes a strap will store SOME energy like just about everything will and it is also slightly elastic (thus why it is easier on your rig), however, and this depends on the material, straps typically loose that energy very quickly and usually won't do much worse then give you a wicked towel slap! :eek:Quote:

I have pulled enough vehicles out and seen enough vehicles pulled out, to have seen just about every stunt that you can imagine.... hahaha My best advise for all situations is to use a strap with NO metal hooks on it and if you want to be extra cautious, toss a heavy blanket on the middle of it. Then get all the people staring at you at least the distance of the strap away from the vehicle and the object being pulled.... THEN FLOOR IT!! :burnout:
now i find out, lol, i actually new there was some potential for disaster, but i failed to accept it, lol
i thought the stump would pull out easier than it actually did, that was a tough one
If it makes you feel better dude I will share with you the story of how my old Toyota got a little dent in her hood. I was trying to yank out this tall and scrawny tree in my parents back yard. I dug down 3 feet around her roots and cut what I could. Then I looped the strap about four feet up around her trunk and ran it back to my front tow hook (I usually pull things out going backwards cuz your reverse gear is always lower then your first gear). But I forgot to calculate one thing... my strap was 30 feet long and the tree was about 40 feet high... you see where this is going? So anyways, I dropped her in four-low, rev'd her up, and dropped the clutch. The strap snapped up like a rubber band, the truck jolted, the tree broke free, and then I had a moment of clarity as I saw the tree coming down towards my rig... I think the thought in my head went something along the lines of "WHAT IN GODS NAME WAS I THINKING... OH SH!T!!!" So yeah, I kept laying into the gas thinking that in some way I would out run the tree that was attached to my frame. And after smashing into the old swingset in our yard, the tree came down just slightly to the right of my truck, luckily only putting a slight dent in my hood.... oh and there was a tiny dent in my rear bumper from the swingset.... So ya feel better now??

Another good thing about a strap and pulling something out is the stretch and when it rebounds extra pulling power. If the strap is in good shape I would think a strap would be better then a chain if the rating of each are egual and the strap would be easier on the truck also.
well at least you know that your truck was good and strong damn cheap japanese chains.
