Is the finger control or foot control better? Is this to control the amperage?
I found this one on ebay, looks like a good price.

foot control is nice once you get used to it, it is nice to tig pipe together , if you have square ends you can just butt the pipe togheter and weld it with no filler rod, perfect for intake/ exhaust tubing. if piping is going to be the majority of yor welding i would consider some type of chop saw to get square ends, its hard to get square with a bandsaw or grinder.tig is also very clean, nice work and once you get the hang of it not hard at all. try calling a miller weld shop in your area to get info on what machine comes with what acessories and there recommendations on what kit/machine youll need for comparision shopping. good luck. :thumb:
Hi, Allen.
I use the Dynasty 200 DX and it is great. It is almost as easy to weld aluminum with it as welding steel with my old tig welder. I wouldn't recommend the DX, it was a waste of money, get the SD. The features that the DX have would only be good for production welding.
I paid about the same as the one on ebay from my Miller dealer, with a foot control, too.
Don't get the 180, 200 amps is only good for 1/4 inch aluminum, tops. I need the portability of mine, otherwise I would get a 400 amp model.
But for 1/4 inch and thinner aluminum, this thing rocks. The thinnest I have welded is 18ga. aluminum, was easy to control, no burn-through, and beautiful.( I think 200 amps is good for like 1/2 inch steel, I'm not positive.)
You will use a foot control almost exclusively. I have a finger control, and I have only used it once. It really saved the day, though. I had to lay on my side, under my truck, reaching up to reweld the exhaust pipe into the flange.
Another nice feature is this welder will run on 120 and 240 single phase, and 208/230 and 480 three phase. If you have electricity, you can run it.
It does not come with the accessories that you asked about, but you will get all you need for about $2800- $3200. It is nice to have the dealer help decide how to set it up.
Do I sound like a Miller dealer? I'm sure the similar Lincoln welds just as good, the fact that the Miller runs on 120 sold me.
The main point to take from this post is the quality weld that this unit makes.
Hope this helps, Mike.
P.S. How's that for a first post?
That's exactly what I needed to know!!! Thanks a lot and I'll be buying my 200 SD today with finger and foot control. I kind of like the idea of a finger control, it seems easier and like you said if I'm on my back.Quote:

I found a Miller dealer locally, if they can match or come close to ebay listings I'll do it.
thanks again and I'll be posting up next on what gas, filler, etc to use.
Should I get a big ass tank for the welder? I dont have time to fill up small ones.
thanks,
allen
if you own your own welder, how many times have your eyes gotten "burned" or whatever from using it without the eye shield?
Never burned my eyes, not literally with sparks, but I see the spark somtimes, but it doesn't hurt or bother me.Quote:

Hell, sometimes you just have to put a spot weld on the metal to hold something and the helmet just gets in the way.
I have a small piece of shield/glass I use sometimes to get in small tight areas, that helps a lot.
I've never burned my eyes either but I always wear a sheild or safety glasses. I am anal about that. NEVER weld with contacts in unless you want to take the risk of fusing them to your cornea! The bright flash is enough to do that. The flash from an electrical short will do that some times, also.
DO NOT LOOK AT THE BLUE LIGHT, THIS IS NOT K-MART! just a safety tip guys!
glad ur getting one so you can fix me up with the intake for the Whipple. I need to learn how to tig. I can already stick decently well and have played with a MIG a bit but TIG is where its at if you can do it well my buddy can make some beuatiful stuff. Let us know how you like it I will ahve to copy you since you are doing all the research.
I finally bought it today! I got the Dynasty 200 SD, thanks MikeGyver, the contractor kit w/ foot control and a cover, it'll be here after the 1st.
Now I need to figure out what I need to weld stainless and aluminum, any suggestion Guys??
thanks for all the input, I'll post some pics of the progress.
